It's Always Something

One of my favorite movies is Joe Versus the Volcano (Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan, 1990). Dr. M & I have watched it multiple times & we have some favorite quotes that we fling at each other (and then laugh uproariously – we think we’re hilarious):

  • I know he can get the job, but can he do the job?
  • Wherever we go, whatever we do, we're gonna take this luggage with us!
  • It’s always something with you Joe, isn’t it?

The premise of the movie is that this hypochondriac is diagnosed with a brain cloud & only has a certain number of months to live. We really enjoy how he spends his time after his diagnosis. All these little vignettes of life moments.

Really, though, I only bring it up to state the obvious. I believe that I have a brain cloud. It’s hovering somewhere just above my neck. Sometimes the sun breaks through, but mostly I’m seeing the world through a fog. No, I’m not abusing my pain meds thank you very much! Just feeling a lack of clarity & inability to write anything witty or interesting – on my blog or anyone else’s. Bear with me. I’ll be back with a vengeance soon I’m sure!

P.S. I have my first physical therapy session today. I’m sure I’ll have scads of fascinating things to say about that!

  2. I've had a fuzzy week...perhaps it an early onset of Fall...?

  3. Woody Allen in Hanna and her Sisters, was a confirmed hypochondriac - probably in real life too.

Hope your fuzziness soon clears up and the brain cloud melts away in the sunshine.

  4. I own this movie, I love it so much. So many brilliant moments! And such a wonderful message!

"But can he do the job. I know he can get the job but can he DO the job? I'm NOT arguing that with you. I'm not arguing that with YOU. I'm not ARGUING that with you. I'm not ARGUING that with you Harry! Harry... Harry... Yeah Harry... but can he DO the job. I know he can GET the job but can he do the job?"

  5. A good friend of mine and I were chatting yesterday about a number of things. We decided to blame most of what was ailing her on barometric pressure.

It's such a wonderfully handy thing to whip out. "Ahhh, right." people will nod, and say, mainly because they don't want to say, "Um, what? What in the world do you actually mean?"

When in doubt? Barometric Pressure is the new scapegoat.

I hope you feel your clarity returning soon!

  6. Well, let the readers decide whether the stuff is interesting and witty; you just write whatever you feel like.

  7. I remember my kids loving that movie and I have not seen it yet, but you have reminded me to watch it. I have been in a blogging slump and I think most of the bloggers I know are in one also. Winter time may bring about some creativity.
    Good luck with the therapy!

  8. Boy Howdy, Bug. I think we can all relate to your fog. I hope it clears soon and that physical therapy does right by you. It can be a real pain...but somehow seems to help the pain. I alternately wanted to throttle and hug my p.t. I'll be keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed for you.

  9. It's funny you should say that about the brain cloud - I, and quite a few others I know, have been feeling a bit fuzzy lately. I don't know if it's because there's no real feeling of the changing seasons here (UK) any more and so we're kind of "stuck" where we are. Personally, there's a big massive question mark over my work future at the moment which is not helping. For two pins (as my mum would say) I'd jack it all in and get a job sweeping the streets or something.

  10. Nebulousity syndrome perhaps?

No, don't look it up in your medical dictionary; I've just invented it for all who have this 'brain cloud' thingy.

Phil - you are a nut, but I think we already knew that.

  12. Now I know why you call yourself Bug. You've placed a listening device in my cottage; you've heard my missus say "You're nutty Phil".

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
