Taking It Easy

I’ve been cleaning in mosey mode today. I woke up late – it was after 10:00! I used to sleep that late or later on a regular basis on weekends. But since my shoulder injury in January, not so much. I finally have understood what Dr. M means when he says that his body won’t let him sleep in. I’d like to think that this is a sign that my shoulder is healing – and it is – but I still have the same amount of pain, or more, that I had before the surgery. Probably it’s just a sign that lying awake & composing blog posts for two hours on Thursday night caught up with me. (None of the blog posts were interesting upon waking – except for the idea that I’d write about my time in Africa, but that’s so huge that I’m not sure I’m up to the task just now).

Anyway, up at 10:00, shower, breakfast, catch up on facebook, and it’s noon before I make my first cleaning foray – the bathroom. Cleaned the tub, toilet & sink, and took the rugs out for a wash. Then I took a computer break. I won’t take you on a cleaning journey, but let’s just say that at this rate it will be next Tuesday before I’m done. Sigh. One of my goals in life is to someday have the money to have someone clean my house. I didn’t enjoy it when I was healthy, & I especially don’t like it now. My mother cleaned houses for a living - & she was really good – but apparently she kept all that love for herself. Meh.

What is the point of all this? Just that I’m enjoying my lazy Saturday. Dr. M & I aren’t terribly concerned about dust & carpet cleanliness. We like when the house is clean, but we don’t stress about it. Sometimes what we need is a day to watch college football & baseball & play on the internet & maybe read a book. Let’s not leave the house, ok? In fact, let’s take a nap – my eyes are heavy even as I’m typing thissssssssssssssssssss

  1. ummm. Nice lazy Saturday; nothing much beats it. Except maybe a lazy Sunday.

  2. I keep trying to tell my kids that they should ENJOY not having anything to do sometimes! They think that having nothing to do on a Saturday is the most horrific thing in the world. I guess lazy days aren't appreciated until you've spent enough years working your tail off to be able to realize just how wonderful it is to do nothing.

  3. Oh me too, me too, me too. I think one of the reasons we are moving is because after 33 years, that house has gotten beyond us. We are trying to remake ourselves and keep a better handle on the house work and repairs. Having less stuff helps too and there is a lot I am not taking.

  4. Take it easy girl. You have the perfect excuse. Your shoulder hurts! It is good to turn the negative (your healing shoulder) into the positive (not cleaning house like a maniac).

  5. Keep taking things as easy as possible!

In 1932, the philosopher Bertrand Russell, wrote "In Praise of Idleness".

    A part of it said:

I want to say, in all seriousness, that a great deal of harm is being done in the modern world by belief in the virtuousness of work, and that the road to happiness and prosperity lies in an organized diminution of work.

He also gave a little story which went:

Everyone knows the story of the traveler in Naples who saw twelve beggars lying in the sun (it was before the days of Mussolini), and offered a lira to the laziest of them. Eleven of them jumped up to claim it, so he gave it to the twelfth. This traveler was on the right lines.

As I've mentioned at times: if work was so blooming marvellous the rich gentry would have snapped it all up ages ago.

  6. Relaxing is always a good idea on days off. What's the rush with the house anyway? It'll just get dirty again.

Sorry you're still in so much pain. I hope that begins to lift asap.

Will you friend me on FB? Since I don't know your real name, remind me, OK? If you want to.

  7. Bug, without meaning to pry, are you going to Physical Therapy? I know it's a pain in the...well, never mind that, I know it's a pain. It is helpful, really.

A friend online once told me that she likes to clean her house in stages, sort of sneak up on the dirt, so as not to startle it :-) I thought that was a marvelous philosophy.

  8. Shimp - I go to PT three times a week right now, but I'm cutting back after next week - it's eating into my vacation time at work. And the exercises I'm doing aren't that different from what I do at home.

I've tried to be more organized about cleaning - but I think sneaking up on the dirt is what I usually do :)

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
