$50 for your thoughts...

You know how some women will say that they have an extra child – their husband? Or, in my case, one child – Dr. M. Once again Dr. M & I have proven that we are Opposite Couple. He cooks & does laundry, & until recently was the primary grocery shopper. He’s a lot more "feeling" than I am – I’m not logical, exactly, but I often review situations dispassionately. He really is an all-round most excellent husband – and father, apparently, with me being the child. Sometimes he just shakes his head at me as I muddle along as if I’ve never done an adult thing in my life. So last night we were laying in bed (or is it lying? I can never remember), trying to remember which dead white guy was on the fifty dollar bill. We had just watched a documentary on Alexander Hamilton (who is on the $10). Anyway, we were trying to remember who is on the $50, & I said, “Isn’t it Benjamin Harrison because they call them Benjamins?” Dr. M gives me that are-you-sure-you’re-not-really-a-blonde look & says, “No – it’s Benjamin Franklin & he’s on the hundred.” Whoops. He was pretty proud that I remembered that we had a president named Benjamin Harrison.

Then we got into a discussion of Andrew Jackson & why he shouldn’t be on the twenty (he was a tyrant & besides, he did not believe in paper money. Oh the irony!). Don’t you love our pillow talk?

P.S. Ulysses S. Grant is on the $50. He’s probably not our finest representation either…

  1. Grant took awhile to get over being an underachiever, but in the end he was much better than people generally think.

  2. I too am married to a man who does most of the cooking and the shopping and the laundry and the dishes. He says my time is more valuable working than it is doing housework. He is right.

  3. I DO love your pillowtalk stories....and I too am impressed that you knew Ben Harrison, I sure didn't!

  4. What is obvious from this post and from previous posts is that you love and admire your husband.

By the way, there's a famous song called " pillowtalk" which, I think, used to be performed by Doris Day.

  5. Your marital dynamic sounds a bit like mine. I tell people I've never had so many blond moments since I met my husband! And he does the smile and shaking of the head thing, too. It's better than snarling!

  6. Your pillow talk sounds a lot like ours at the manor. :)

  7. I am married to a man who is the "responsible" one. I like to think I'm the lively one. Come, rationalize with me.

  8. Well, what's more Franklin was never a president at all. The only one on money who never was, i think.

We, too, get into some pretty funky conversations about obscure things. But it is so much fun to be together. Sounds like you have fun, too. (I so wish my hubby would do cooking beyond putting a frozen burrito in the microwave.)

  9. I cook, I shop, I pay bills, I work, I have no kids, I clean - but of course, in the eye of the beholder - I do nothing.

Kinky pillow talk to say the least.

  10. Kathryn, Alexander Hamilton was never a president either :-)

I think that's great pillow talk, by the way! Using your brains before resting them for the night, it's very fitting.

It's funny, it's usually best not to look too closely at our president's and their history. Just like everyone they had complicated lives and made a lot of mistakes both personal, and professional.

If we only put thoroughly admirable creatures on our money, we're likely to end up with Elmo on our currency :-)

  11. Who is Elmo? Not being an American, I only know your famous presidents, but Elmo is surely someone else? I love your pillow talk, too, and this shaking of heads is probably a generally husband-thing. Funny post.

  12. You were lying in bed would be correct I think. Chickens lay, human lie! In both senses of the word.

BTW, I do ALL the cooking, dishes, hoovering, grass cutting and, until only a few months back, I operated the washing machine and did most of the ironing! My ironing skills are pretty dire and she cannot stand to see my shirts put away unless in pristine and immaculate condition. Don't mind her interfering in this respect!

Mind you, it's only been that way since we retired from work entirely, about 10 years ago. My wife had to do it all before, plus caring for our three children. I just figured she needed a long break after all that hard graft for so many years.

  13. While I do consider my husband the Best Husband Ever, he does not clean, cook, do laundry, take out the trash or pay bills. He does bring home an income that allows me to work part time from home and always has supported me doing that as well as staying home with our three little people so I think I got the better end of the deal, actually.

Yah, pillow talk...we talked until 3 AM on Sunday morning...I'm STILL tired!

  14. I'm the grownup in our house - I go out to work, organise the bills etc. I just would love if my large child would chip in with the housework sometimes. Any tips on how to get the other half to do it anyone?

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
