Yeah, it's the post about resolutions - sort of

So, are you in the camp of folks who are glad it’s a new year and a new decade? I’m ambivalent – Dr. M finished his dissertation, graduated, and got a job doing what he loves in the 2000’s. I finally started making real money in the work place (don’t get excited – it’s not that much! But for most of the 90s I was making $18,000 - $20,000 per year). I lost 50 pounds & gained them back. My mother died, & Dr. M’s mom was placed into a nursing home. I watched a friend’s baby die, & another friend had twins. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Wow – really applicable to this past decade!

I try not to
look over my shoulder -
it’s all awkward
and I tend to trip.

I need all my
graceless focus
to take that next
step skip giant running leap

Where in the world
will I land?
It makes me weary
to contemplate.

I probably just
need a little more caffeine.

Here are my wishes for 2010:

1. Financial Responsibility
2. The Usual Thing (darn 50 pounds!)
3. To Be as Green as I can Be
4. Marriage Equality in All the World (I can dream, can’t I?)
5. Peace on Earth (I know I’m not a beauty contestant – I really mean it!)

  1. To be green - ha! YES!

Great list. I agree with all of them...and yes, I have 50 pounds that could disappear without a tear from me.

    Happy New Year!

  2. I like your list, and I'm right there with you, including 50 pounds. We've got a wedding in April and I really don't want to look like I do now!!

You know, the decade has been mas o menos for me, too. Let's drink to better times, better times, better times.

  3. Oh the financial responsibility one -ouch! Then I would have to give up my laptop and internet - to awful to contemplate. Somebody said the other day that he wishes people would start spending what they earn and not what they wish to earn - so true. Oh yes and the 50lbs - mine is 15kg so I will join you in trying... again.

  6. A happy, healthy and peaceful new year to you Bug and to everyone.

I resolve to not make any new year resolutions that I cannot keep. A short list, or really a non-list!

  8. Happy New Year!

Each of your resolutions is worthy of a year of its own. I hope they all stick.

  9. Ah, life is life, regardless of the numerical title, eh? I can't say I'm ambivalent, there's some a bit exciting about what feel like new prospects, even though the truth is that we will still go along, day by day.

I don't have a particularly complex list of wishes for the next ten years. I hope we, as people, continue to learn to be better, and that I amongst the group who learns those lessons, and applies them.

Mostly I'm glad to see the back of 2009, although not for many personal reasons. On a personal level we had a good year, in many respects. Happy things happened, sad things too.

Mostly 2009, which seemed to be ushered in on such a global tide of hope, was a rather sad year. It clearly illustrated not merely our problems, but how we (the general, universal we) are one of the biggest obstacles in overcoming them.

Strange year. Came in riding horses named Hope and Change, and both were severely lamed by the time the year was ushered out. The public option bit it, insurance reform is unlikely, marriage equality took huge hits, Dan Choy sacrificed his career yet "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" still exists.

It was a disheartening year on the public and political stage.

I hope we do better in 2010.

  10. I'm not fussed about the decade thing. My list is short - lost about 40lbs and less of the potty-mouth. That;s it.

  11. I'm wholeheartedly excited about the new decade and all of the wonderful things it might hold. But then I'm in a ridiculously euphoric mood at the moment anyway.

Good luck with your 2010 goals.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
