To Write Love on Her Arms

I'm participating!

The following information is from the Facebook group. To read more, go to the TWLOHA website.)

To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

February 12, To Write Love On Her Arms Day, is a day where anyone can write the word love on their arms, to support those who are fighting against depression and those who are trying to recover. On this day, just write love on your arm, and show it off, other people will ask why you have love written on your arm, and you tell them you are supporting to write love on her arms day, and how it's benefiting a nonprofit organization helping stop depression, and make love the movement

  3. What a kind, caring, and absolutely loving thing to do! I honestly would do it, only I'm very unlikely to see anyone other than my family today (a rotten cold is keeping me indoors for the sake of the general populace, I remain here).

But I love the intent behind this. Our society is incredibly callous towards people suffering from anything they can deem a mental illness, believing that it must be a choice. Forgetting that our brains are at the whims of all sorts of hormonal and chemical influences.

It's extremely important to extend support and compassion towards anyone suffering from depression, particularly because the mindset that "You're just being weak, and self-indulgent" is still out there, in all its ignorant glory, making people feel even worse.

Sorry to go all soapbox here, Dana. In my husband's family several of his siblings struggle with bonafide disorders, and won't get the help they need...because they don't think of it as a "real" illness. It's every bit as real, and treatable as high blood pressure.

Just putting that out there, on the off chance that it will help someone understand a bit more (I have a feeling the people who read your blog likely already know that, Bug...but just in case).

Honestly, if I wouldn't be imparting germs to all who met me today, I'd run around waving my arm in the faces of everyone.

  4. What a lovely idea. Those folks are often the ones who suffer in silence, so it's so nice to do something like this to reach out to them.

Loved your poem on your previous post, BTW. :-)

    Thanks for spreading the love!

  6. You have such great handwriting. I am glad it is an easy word that I can spell...cause THAT would be embarrassing.

    Great idea...I'm mulling it over.

  7. There is such a stigma about it, and there should not be... as you said, it's no different than heart disease or other disorders people need help managing.

  9. Well, the day is whistling by and I'm just now learning about this. Since I'm one of those folks that suffer from depression and consider myself in recovery (and battling every day to be there) I appreciate very much that others are lending their support, be it through a non-profit or writing on their arm. I think for next year I'll make some sort of armband, since in February my arms are pretty much covered up!

  10. Any resemblance to good handwriting is PURELY accidental Amy! I really don't have great handwriting at all - but I guess these particular letters aren't that hard :)

Anne - I thought the same thing after I had written the word. I was planning on wearing a turtleneck today - because, hello, 20 degrees here! But then I decided to wear a blouse where you could see my arms - it's warmish in the office. I'll have a blazer & my winter coat when I leave.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
