Magpie Tales - Week Eleven

This is Not a Formal Affair

It once held
tobacco leaves.
Rich, fragrant
poison.
It served its time
in that rafter.
Served those
cash crop farmers.
Now it serves me
as I wander that
rocky and rutted
root-ridden path.
What place would
an elegant gleam
have in such a life?
I am content
with my walking
companion.

  4. Yes nothing like finding a beautiful stick in the woods during a walk about that is the right length and interesting shape -- such a treasure the common stick that is not so common to me. Great piece the old salt of the earth kind of piece.

  5. Great tale. I can't believe you came up with that considering the subject.

  6. Great one, Bug. WT's family raised baccy several generations back in Missouri. It makes a cool stick!

  10. Cool tale. I love old things for how other hands touched it and loved it before mine.

  12. You took a unique view of the prompt. I've a couple of aging wood walking sticks myself. Much more helpful on rocky root-ridden paths.

  13. Agree with Catalyst about the rocky and rutted root-ridden path.
    That's great word play

  14. I believe there is beauty in function. Somethings or someone is more glorious for what they contribute to this world, rather than the outward beauty they posess.

I choose the walking stick, too! :)
