The Magpie Bus is Gone

Once again I’ve decided to combine the Poetry Bus with the Magpie. This week, the bus is being driven by Marion at Dragonfly's Poetry & Prolixity. She has instructed us to write about a color. I used to collect rainbows in college (this was before Bloom County & my penguin obsession) so you can imagine how difficult it was for me to just pick one color. And, in fact, I didn’t pick just one. So there!

Gone

I didn’t turn back,
(I’m gone)
But I could feel
the panes of glass
reflecting…what?
A glorious sky,
beckoning trees -
the anguish
behind that curtain?
(I’m gone)
Blue and green
are the colors
of despair and envy.
The colors of what
I’m leaving behind.
And blue and green
are the colors
of that amazing sky
and those siren trees
that call my name.
(I’m gone)

  8. Hey "Bug" ~
I came over from Marion's blog - been reading some of your back posts. I play around with poetry and am thinking about doing the Poetry Bus. I need to think on it for a while. Just wanted to say HI because I lived my entire life in Ohio (Canton) and moved South to Virginia 4 years ago. (Lived in SC one of those 4 years - too hot, too many bugs, too expensive, LOVIN' Virginia.
Anyway, I'll be following you now ~ how could I not follow someone from the state that I will always call "home".

  9. The merge of blue and green! My favourite colour. We do indeed live them both.

  10. I like willow's term "Magpie Bus".

And loved the poem - sparse, and yes, enigmatic. The repetition works really well, and I love the changing meanings of the blue and green - especially "siren trees".
    Good one!

  11. I liked that you colors were chosen sparingly. If you had used more, it just wouldn't have worked.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
