It Gets Better

Now, in this mirror
you see brokenness.
Maybe you believe
abomination.
Maybe you believe
nothingness
is a cool balm
for torment.

But look again
at your fractured
reflection.

It’s the mirror
that’s broken

not you.

The Bug (who is wearing purple today for gay teens)
10/20/10

The YouTube project called “It Gets Better” is a noble effort to help save the many young gay and questioning children and teenagers out there right now who are struggling, who are contemplating suicide. The project tries to show those “despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don’t think they have a future” that adults who were in their same situation as them have endured and emerged in a safer, happier place. They are examples that life goes on, that situations do improve. From the Being Blog.

This is a One Shot Wednesday Poem and a Magpie. Please go to those two sites to check out other authors.

  4. I've found that our flaws only make us more interesting, not broken.

(My mirror is a fun-house mirror!)

    Nice One Shot, Bug!

  5. Thank you for sharing your poem with us. My daughter went to school in head to toe purple today (yes, she has purple jeans...). I missed the purple memo so I thought she was just being weird. I will be putting a purple ribon on my door when I get home.

    Nice piece.

  16. Mirrors only reflect outer appearances - it's the inner ones that count. :)
( I wear purple lots - just because I like it - never heard of wearing it for any other reason, but I would have today, if I'd known!)

  17. Very good...its most of the times we identify ourselves with the things that happen around us, paining us but not knowing that this is not happening to us but to the self image that we have created... nice end to a great verse... I liked it so much...

  22. That was a wonderful, timely and heartfelt piece, Bug. I really hope the message was broadcast loud and clear. Up with tolerance, love and acceptance :-) As it happens, I'm almost always wearing purple, as it's my favorite color.

I love what people can do, when they band together to do something kind.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
