A Psalm

I.
Unsayable and unformed prayers
Carom off of hope and dread
Until there is no part of my being
That doesn't commune with God

II.
By day I see your face
In the crowd around me
By night I am wracked
By doubt and insignificance

III.
The dark swallows
Communion and joy
But in the morning hope
Perches by my bedroom door

IV.
I will close my eyes
And dream of the ones
Who love me and
The One who loves me

V.
Come morning I will
Take hope's hand
Once more.

This is a One Shot Wednesday poem.

  4. I like the last stanza and think it could stand alone, with maybe just a little more sensory input before it.

  6. Never insignificant, not even a moment long. Always loved and sheltered! Even when things look dark. We are all here, knowing the same doubts and worries, but sit with you and sing your psalm!

  11. I love the mornings when hope awaits me. But then there is the darkness swallowing it sometimes. Your poem describes this duality so well.

  12. Oh, beautiful! I love it, the verses separate and yet whole. The first one, in its essence, is to me reminiscent of Rumi...

  13. Interesting how you broke this into five parts, yet the flow is continuous. Neat One Shot, Bug!

  14. Angela & Anne - you're so sweet. Thanks for your kind words!

gospelwriter - I wrote the first stanza in the morning & couldn't think what to put with it. Then I wrote the rest last night. Thanks for the Rumi compliment (which is how I take it).

  15. Just beautiful, Bug.

    Reminds me of...

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

    Keeping you in my thoughts.
