I mourn the passing of the light

I mourn the passing of the light
Oh I try to buy into that
Sweater weather
Hot chocolate night
Cozy evenings
Spent indoors
Mentality
But
I mourn the passing of the light
Logic says it’s just a season
Enjoy the cider
And the candy corn
Enjoy the warm
Blanket and the
Cold nose
But
I mourn the passing of the light
Already my thigh muscles
Remember how to
Walk in the snow
Thoughtfully
Carefully
And
I mourn the passing of the light
Perhaps like some mad gardener
I’ll pour over seed catalogs and
Be glad that the ground is resting
Let it sleep and come spring
I’ll cast my thoughts on fertile ground
Come spring I’ll welcome back the light

  2. I thought about this, too. I keep looking at the clock and marvelling that, now, it's getting dark by 8!

  4. While I enjoy Autumn itself, I loathe the light leaving for so long.

  5. Very nice poem. It makes me want to move to Hawaii though...I know the short light days are coming soon.

  6. The changing of seasons is always bittersweet -- particularly in fall. (But I do LOVE the fall.)

  7. Well said. I also miss the long hours of daylight. We seem to be losing minutes a day.

  8. I really liked this, and found some humour there! Great use of the but.

  9. Wonderful!...I feel exactly the same..I tell myself that there are so many wonderful experiences to come in this season...but I mourn the light. Exactly right!

  10. Nice. The days may be getting shorter but it's not really cooled off. Triple digits this week but should only be in the 90s tomorrow. Breaking many records.

  12. Lovely--though I am so much further south that I don't experience that darkness yet.

  13. The last I really saw of the warm summer sun was Labor Day weekend. When it finally stopped raining allowing the sun to shine, I noticed the angle of the sun had changed. Though I like autumn, I don't like what follows. Spring seems so far away.

A beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing.

  14. I love the way this reads... and I, too, dread winter's onset.

  15. I'm not a fan of winter, but fall is my favorite season! This summer was just way too hot for me...not going to miss it.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
