Salt

Salt

This is one of those dreams
where I can’t move
and the tide is rising
and I’ll never reach the boat.
The sand is warm but
I watch the water creep
and I wonder if the
susurration is the sea
or my beating heart.
The sea is gurgling to itself -
chortling at secrets it has
hoarded for infinity.
At last I will become
one with this beautiful
conspiracy of water.

My alarm is an ache and a relief
and I move through my day
with the bittersweet taste
of salt on my lips.

This is a Magpie Tale.

  2. I like the part about a conspiracy of water. Nice job. You say a great deal about the primalness of the sea, which is where I thing we all came from.

  8. Ah, that dream state that takes us to other places - places that feel scary and familiar at the same time. Good job.
