2012 Project 365 – Week Three

This week had a number of squirrels – which is fitting because today is Squirrel Appreciation Day. Ha! Nevertheless, Dr. M took some great cardinal pictures today - go here to check out his blog post.

Sunday, January 15th
I set my alarm, but forgot to turn it on and slept until 10:30 – oops to getting to church! We spent the day just hanging out. Dr. M took a picture of a squirrel – I know! He never takes pictures of squirrels…

I finally unpacked a box of books sent to me by The Cyber Hermit – woot! It’s her collection of Laurie R. King books about Sherlock Holmes & his wife Mary Russell. I’m VERY excited to get started on this series.

Monday, January 16th – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
I didn’t do a special post on this day, but I’ll just repost what I said last year:
…[we] celebrated the life of a man who was a force for change in the world. A complicated man, and a dynamic one. He could have used that charisma for other pursuits, ones that would most likely have not gotten him killed. But instead he took that burden and raised it over his head & flung it out into the world to shatter at the feet of complacent America.

…when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" Martin Luther King, Jr.

We decided to take a ramble today. Is this a pony & a ram, or a pony & a footstool?

A swan at a park in Springfield, looking at us kind of sideways.

The secret purpose to our outing was to use a gift card that Dr. M got for Christmas to get me a new point & shoot camera! As you can see, my old one (which I had had for quite some time) was having some issues. Although I think the purple rubber band adds something to its “look.”

Here’s my new baby – it weighs about 4 ounces less than the old one & will be living in my purse for all those random State of the Bug pictures I like to take.

Dr. M snuck Nutella into our shopping cart on Saturday, so today I decided to try it for the first time ever. Well! Where have you been all my life?

 Tuesday, January 17th
I was playing with my new camera at work (since it was already in my purse & all). It’s the State of the Bug – sheepish!

Not content to annoy my own self with my camera, I took it to my coworker’s office & bothered her. She was a pretty good sport about it though. Heh.

While I was playing around at work Dr. M took a picture of a swollen Mad River – we’ve had lots of rain lately.

Wednesday, January 18th
Donkeys! They’re so cute & little.

Yes, sheep on a hay roll.

Thursday, January 19th
We do our part to make sure that the squirrels in our neighborhood are fat & sassy.

Who’s that slipping over the fence?

Friday, January 20th
Dr. M took this picture of deer crossing the railroad tracks – they love this area.

The bird diner was in full swing today – all the tables were full & some patrons had to hover for a bit to find a seat.

Mr. Cardinal looking haughty, as usual.

Dr. M made a fabulous soup for dinner. Yes, that’s okra in there, as well as corn, peppers, onions, tomatoes, chicken sausage, and leftover green beans that also had some pecans in them. If you look closely you can see a pecan floating on top! It made for an “interesting” contrast. Actually, I liked it a lot, but I’m nutty that way.

Dr. M was fooling around with the new camera. Isn’t he the cutest thing?

Saturday, January 21st
Dr. M took this early morning picture of a squirrel. Is it Frankensquirrel? Squarewolf? Vampel? Oh wow, those are so very very bad…

The ground crew.

Listen sir, I think you’ve had enough. Really, we’re cutting you off now.

“Hey! This is MY feeder – get off there you goon!”

I’m leaving you with something that made me laugh out loud. Dr. M stopped to get a few essentials on his way home from school. He apparently wanted to make sure that we never run out of toilet paper again – ha!

Go to Sara’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. We also take pictures with our old reliable 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710. This is the camera that the Bug uses most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. Oh my lordy, Nutella! I flove that stuff!

The SU refuses to buy Charmin. Says he can't stand the bears :).

Let me know what you think of the books!

  2. OH MY WORD... I just learned the goodness of Nutella a few months ago... & now, I freak out when my jar gets down below half. Literally, when we had snow coming in, I said, "I gotta go get stocked up on Nutella" - forget the milk & bread... give me Nutella on graham crackers!!!!

    Congrats on the new camera!

  8. I'd never heard of Nutella until I lived in Morocco in the early '90s, and it was mainly European then. Now it seems much more popular and available in the U.S. I like it, but I'm not sure it's very healthy!

Congrats on the new camera! It's funny that the Charmin touts itself as both "Mega" and "Ultra." I think there should be a rule that only one superlative word is permitted on any given product package.

  9. Nutella....YUM! A fav at our house for sure!

Totally jealous, I have been wanting a small light weight camera for my purse for a long time. You will have to let us know how you like this one. I love my camera but it is to big and heavy to carry around in my purse....I have my eye on a small cannon, I am waiting for it to go in sale at walmart!

Honey, a man after my own heart. There are two things that will propel me to the store on a cold and rainy day, when we are out of coffee and when we are out of toilet paper. Gotta keep the stock pile of Charmin in good order around this house for sure!

    Blessings

  10. That's the size of toilet paper that I always buy! Yep, we're full of something around here! :)
I have camera envy. Those cameras are so little and light, and take great pictures.
Nutella: Love, love, love it! I saw a humongous jar of it in Kroger the other day, and had to hold back the urge to buy it, even though we have a couple of jars in the pantry!

  11. I think I would love to live in your area...being able to see all the different animals all the time. You amaze me at how you can take a photo of yourself. I have tried and it doesn't work for me.
I have never tried Nutella. Sounds like I should though.

  13. Some say blogging can be a waste of time, but I ask you...where else can you learn about Squirrel Appreciation Day?? :)

There was a day when I would've thought that was a lot of toilet paper...now its the norm.

    Nice camera!

And Squirrel Appreciation Day? That's just awesome.

  15. hahaha My family used to make fun of me too, for buying Charmin in bulk. But they never had to complain about running out!

Loved the running commentary on the squirrels... y'all are so great at taking those photos!

Congrats on the new camera. It'll see plenty of action with P365!

    Have a wonderful week!

  16. Welcome to Nutella Nirvana. What did I tell you? Sheesh! Now go to Trader Joe's and buy a package of palmiers, lovely little flaky, buttery puff pastry cookies, and you'll thank me again once you spread Nutella on those. In a pinch, use Nilla Wafers, and if you're feeling guilty, plop some on a banana. And don't forget that February 5 is World Nutella Day! Aaaah, Nutella. Food of the Goddesses.

On another less Obsessive Note: have you noticed how fatassed the squirrels are this year? I swear that there is one in my yard as big as a cat. No Lie. If they decide to organize, we could be in for it. I've got my BB gun handy, just in case.

  18. Nutella? It's heavenly. Don't tell the squirrels or they will be breaking in to nab the crack in a bottle.

  19. i like your squirrel pictures

Is Laurie King married to Stephen? I know she took up writing, but can't remember her name

  20. Oh, my gosh. I can't believe I missed squirrel appreciation day! :)

We get those huge things of toilet paper all the time. Maybe I have a phobia of running out. Pun intended.

Love your new little camera. Enjoy!

  24. We have a Nutella obsession in this house. I have to hid the jar because if I don't, the next time I go to get some, there are big dip marks in it where Idunno was sticking their fingers in there. Idunno sure does eat a lot of stuff in my house! I'm going to have to start charging them rent I think!

  25. Looks like your the last to discover the delights of Nutella. Ha! We had it in Europe and were glad when it came to the US.
Spied a squirrel chewing on our cedar siding! Ughh, attacking our new house!
I carry my camera in my pocket preferably for easy access. :)
Love the deer picture and the creature dialogues ;)
Take care, Dana. Keep eating those healthy soups!

  26. I am of the opinion the world would loose a little quality of life were there no hazelnuts..... that goes for good quality toilet paper too. =D

Blogging really does encourage me to use my camera more. I need a little more time... (story of my life)

American squirrels will do anything to get into a bird feeder. Canadian squirrels are exactly the same.

Great captures dear Bug. Thank you for sharing these wonderful highlights from Ohio. We lead similar lives. xoxo

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
