In Which The Bug Gets Crafty, And Other Stuff

So yesterday I didn’t get home from church until 4:00 or so (the wee solo went just ok – I’m no Whitney Houston, but I’m no Roseanne Barr either). And today has been extra busy. This means that I’ve read about four blogs since Friday and it looks like I won’t get caught up anytime soon because I’m starting a new hobby.

This weekend I randomly decided to start relearning how to crochet. My goal is to make a dishcloth, because my source for them has left the family & mine are getting a wee bit tattered.

Ya think?

And why can’t I just pick up my crochet hook and do it myself? As the Crochet Queen Robin says, “How hard can it be?” Indeed. We’ll see how this goes.

I was playing around on Saturday - all I had was this burlap twine. I have real yarn today after a trip to Michael's.
Don’t Feed the Pixies has asked about the goose that lives with the Tax Time Pig. To be quite frank, I didn’t realize until recently that she gets dressed in outfits that coordinate with the TTP’s outfits. I’m kind of slow that way. For example, you can see her head sticking up behind the TTP in this picture:

Here are a couple more:

Obviously, I need to do a better job of capturing the goose’s new look when I take TTP’s picture. So, what shall we call her? Any ideas?

Every time Dr. M sees the commercial for this product he howls: Magic Mesh – the Fast and Easy Way to Keep Fresh Air In and Bugs Out! I think I’m offended. Should I be?

  1. I can't believe that dishcloth! If I'd known, I would have shipped off Mom's lifetime supply of Sugar and Cream cotton yarn to you! I have about a dozen of those left that she made. I don't even use them at this point. They're so pretty - peach, yellow, varigated.

Of course I could learn to do it myself, but I don't want to. I never have wanted to knit or crochet. I'll just sit over here and cheer you on!

  2. Love the pig. Are you going to crochet something for him?

  4. Oh, I remember someone trying to teach me to crochet when I was little - like trying to teach a pig to whistle.

    Good luck with your cloths.

  5. fyi - the dishcloth that is "holed" up - that's knitted.

I actually prefer crochet clothes - they're thicker... but if you're wanting that same kinda pattern, just wanted to let you know, you'll need knitting needles instead ;)

  6. YouTube abounds with crafty videos. Go have a search and you'll soon find what you're looking for.

I agree with Rebecca Jo...that is a garter stitch knitted cloth.

Either way, I'm so glad you're literally getting hooked!

  7. I'm another big fan of those dishcloths, and might be persuaded to knit or crochet some -- if worse comes to worst. But so far I have good friends who keep me supplied.

Okay, had another idea for the goose. I looked up the Spanish word for "silly" since we often say someone is a "silly goose". Well, again there are multiple possibilities, but my favorite is bobo, a familiar term that doesn't have a negative connotation, but is used as more of an endearment. So how about Bobo the Goose? Doesn't really have a nice ring to it, but it might grow on us.

I wonder what other languages we could investigate?

  8. Are you sure you're not in Minneapolis?! :-) We've got a man here with a goose in his front yard that he dresses up. I just love the quirkiness of it.

  9. mad pig and goose!!

Intriguing how the crochet source left the family too - I'd say that's a bit of a story...

  10. apparently the goose also moves because in the top picture he's on a path, whilst on the others he's on the porch

Loosey Goosey Caboosey - cos he can move his ass?

    James Pond?

    Tax Time Goose?

    Brian? (well, it's different anyway)

Needs a good side kick - something that goes well with Tax Time Pig

Tax Time Pig and Crackling the Duck?

  11. Well...that is just too odd... because I also have been making dishcloths. Last week I made 3 and then tried to make some flowers for the grands. You can do it! I still make lots of mistakes but really enjoy knitting and crocheting.

  12. I've already pulled it out about four times & restarted - and then I bought new yarn because the stuff I had was too fuzzy & I think MAYBE I'm getting the hang, but it will be a while before I'm washing dishes with anything that I've made!

Love the goose name ideas DTFP - especially Brian. But I like Bobo too. I shall have to consider.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
