Momcat

I took a walk tonight. Just a short jaunt around the block. And I remembered walking with you & your short legs that always went triple time so that I had to jog to keep up. You never did learn how to amble. The mosquitoes are out already & I thought about that night in Zimbabwe and really really hoped that I didn’t end up with that many bites. And as I rounded the corner & headed down the home stretch, struggling because I’m so out of shape, I remembered your last Black Friday and watching you try to run into Best Buy at 4 in the morning on legs that were twice their normal size from edema. Yeah, you never did learn to amble.

Tomorrow you will have been gone for seven years. Seven! Wasn’t it just yesterday? Wasn’t it just yesterday that you let me play with my Christmas presents before Christmas (as long as we didn’t tell Daddy)? Wasn't it just yesterday that you took me out for chocolate cake in the middle of the night? Wasn't it just yesterday that you came all the way to visit me in Africa & cleaned out my refrigerator? Wasn’t it just yesterday that you cried at my wedding?

Wasn’t it just yesterday?

Miss you Momcat.

Go here to read my tribute to her on the 5th anniversary of her death.

  2. Sometimes I can feel my Mom's presence....I guess because I wish so much she were still here. Just like you do I bet. My Mom passed 8 years ago.

  4. So sorry for your loss, Dana.
My mother is four years gone this year, it just flies past but we still miss them. Sounds like you had a wonderful relationship with her (as I did with mine), we were the lucky ones to have them in our lives:)

  5. I don't know what to say, except that I'm sure it's incredibly hard. I haven't lost a parent yet, and I dread the day.

  6. a lovely if sad post Dana....I don't think that I realised that it was Zambia that you were in...our new curate at the church we attend is from Zambia and I believe that his father is a bishop there. David is married to a Chicagon...if that's how you put it!

  7. Your mother sounds a delight --no wonder you miss her so much.

When my mother was about sixty she said that over time she missed HER mother more and more....

My mother was a really super person and I miss her.....

Gosh, will it go on til the end of time?

  11. Only a mother would travel all the way to Africa and then clean your refrigerator. That is so cute.

Love the pic. You look a lot like your mom.

  13. You know, your State of the Bug photos look remarkably similar to Momcat. I think it's the spark in the eyes.

  14. You're not wrong Bug, it was only yesterday. That's memory and our minds.
My father died 25 years ago, and I still have dreams in which he's alive and I wake up and cry.

My love to you, and to your memories of a lovely woman.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
