Cranky Bug

Have you ever noticed that when you come up to an intersection with a four way stop, that people will wait until everyone comes to a complete stop before they go? So instead of going ahead & going & getting out of my way, they wait until I stop. So then I have to sit & wait for them to get through the intersection before I can go.

In the past have these people been the victims of people who just roll through stop signs without stopping?

Are they just extra cautious (like those folks who won’t read their Kindles in the tub?).

Are my expectations of law abidingness too high?

Do I just need to chill & go with the flow (or in this case, go with the stopping)?

Have I simply had too much caffeine today?

Sigh.

  1. Guess I never noticed. ;0)
    Maybe it's the coffee!

  2. It might be a case of too much caffeine. ;-)

My father used to complain about the people who didn't "understand the meaning of the word, 'stop.'" He wanted ALL forward motion to cease before anyone went anywhere! :-)

  3. I need to check this out the next time I'm rolling through a four way stop.

  4. Ha! I have to admit I'm with the people who wait for everyone to stop. It's just plain ol' defensive driving. Because the minute you assume everyone will obey the signs, some dope will plow through and hit you!

  5. There are plenty of people out there who do not know how to behave at a 4 way stop. It's worthwhile to wait those jokers out.

  6. LOL I'm horrible when I drive. I turn the air blue with my language when another driver... um... annoys me.

  7. You know, now that I think about it, it could be the way I careen up to the stop sign that puts people off. I'd probably wait too if I saw me coming :)

  8. I hate that too. But most of all I hate it when someone already stopped waves for me to proceed. They think they are being nice, but dang it...those aren't the rules! You go when it's your turn.

Somehow I'm not surprised that you are at GO right up to the instant you STOP.

  9. I'm with you on this one. If you are currently the person who has been stopped the longest, you go, whether or not others are still rolling up.

I get frustrated while riding my bike and I'm stopped at a stop sign where the cross traffic doesn't have one. People will stop as a courtesy to let me cross (bless their hearts), but they're really just causing traffic problems. Drive defensively, by all means, but if you have the right-of-way, proceed.

  10. Maybe it's all the little decals and the big numbers on the sides and top of your car that scares 'em. :)

  11. My pet peeve is the people who scream through the stop signs in our residential neighborhood. They make no pretense of even slowing down. For what it's worth, the drivers are invariably young women.

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
