2012 Project 365 – Week Twenty-one

Remember the other week when I thought I might have the most pictures ever? Well this week shoots that week out of the water! I really really tried to only pick a few. And when you think of percentages, I did only pick a few. Ahem. Fortunately for you, Dr. M is posting a lot of our pictures on his blog this week. You really should check them out. He has two posts up already, here and here. Go back all this week to see new entries.

In honor of Memorial Day, Dr. M also put up a post about his ancestor who fought in the Civil War - you should check it out here

Oh, & there’s no one State of the Bug this week – I think there’s a Bug picture practically every day!

Sunday, May 20th
The morning was rainy and cool (hurricane season already!). But later in the morning we ventured out to make sure the ocean was actually there.

We found a different beach that seemed a little wilder & less populated.

Of course there were lots of pictures of birds (remember to check out Dr. M’s blog for more of them).

And, as Saturday’s sign (from last week’s post) promised, there really was an alligator in our lagoon!

Monday, May 21st
On Monday we headed to Savannah for a bit. I’m not posting any of those pictures (we didn’t actually spend much time in town). I’m sure Dr. M will do a post on our Savannah pictures later this week. First, we stopped at Fort Jackson for a bit.

Here I am waiting for Dr. M outside the fort – doing my traditional thing of trying to avoid the cannon demonstration.

Then we went to Bonaventure Cemetery. It looked appropriately southern cemetery-ish.

This bench was at Johnny Mercer’s grave.

Tuesday, May 22nd
Tuesday we spent more time at the beach.

When I turned over this empty crab shell all these little crabs came scurrying out! Gave me a bit of a start - & then I went “Aww – cute little crabs…”

That evening we did some more beach walking (& sitting). Goodbye beach!

Wednesday, May 23rd
On our way tout of town, we stopped by the Pinkney Nature Preserve. Most of our pictures from that visit are already on Dr. M’s blog.

We decided to drive to Port Royal and check out a pier that we remembered visiting before. They have a nice long boardwalk.

And of course, birds.

Our last glimpse of Spanish Moss before heading out of town.

Thursday, May 24th
When I’m at Daddy & Amy’s house Dr. M & I very often eat weird things for breakfast. I had pulled pork BBQ, baked beans, and lemon pound cake. Dr. M had lemon pound cake, sweet potato pie and nabs (crackers).

I took pictures of the outside flowers. Their yard is always so glorious!

Garlic is so funky looking to me.

Daddy’s garden.

I finally finished my crochet cap! Now I’m working on a red one.

Friday, May 25th
Dr. M took more pictures of Daddy & Amy’s flowers.

Then he took pictures of his home county when he went to visit his dad. Of course he saw some sheep.

I watched my nephew help my dad plant some flowers. He’s leaving for basic training in July – which makes me sad and proud.

Saturday, May 26th
I spent some time with my brother this morning. He got my sister in law this tiny Yorkie puppy for her birthday in April. She is so cute! (OK J, you’re cute too, but I’m sorry, the puppy wins).

Dr. M drove me by so I could see the sheep in person :)

Then we headed over to see Dr. M’s dad again. While I was working on this post bragging about my dad, my 80 year old father in law was doing this:

Dr. M & his dad.

I wonder if the Abernethy’s would let me live here? It seems appropriate.

I love the roadside thistle.

I asked for it & Amy made me a strawberry rhubarb pie. Yum! Thanks Amy – it was fabulous!

Whew – are you as glad as I am that this post is finished?

Go to Sara’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. He also takes pictures with our old reliable 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710.  The Bug uses our new Nikon Coolpix S6200 most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. Great post, Bug. I can't believe your beautiful hat! Way to go. Glad you had such a good time.

BTW: When our daughter was visiting I mentioned something about a pack of nabs. She had no idea what I was talking about. I had to explain the thing about Nabisco and crackers and such.

  8. Your hat is very becoming.

The barn picture is great, but lacking in cows. Just saying....

I was trying to think of the last time I had any sweet potato pie. I think a student's mom made me one years and years ago. It was wonderful.

Sounds like a lovely vacation for you and the esteemed Dr. Sneak some of those pretty Gerberas back, won't you?

  9. I absolutely loved my time in Savannah! We went to the Bonaventure and had a lovely time just wandering around.

Your picture made me yearn for some time at the beach. Regrettably it will not be any time soon I think. Our next vacay is planned and there is no sun and surf anywhere to be found.

I am like you, I have a hard time editing when I have lots of great shots fro vacations!

    YOUR HAT ROCKS! LOVE IT!
Would love the pattern if you have it that you can attach in an email!

    GREAT WEEK!

And LOVE your nephew who joins a proud tradition of young men stepping up to defend what makes our country unique and wonderful (if not perfect). Tell him thank you from a family of Army and Air Force veterans.

  14. I have posted 175 vacation pics over on my blog, grouped in five sea-island-related posts, in the midst of which is sandwiched my Memorial Day post. I have one more group to put up, probably tomorrow: my cotton mill pics from where I grew up. Hope you enjoy the sea island pics! We surely enjoyed taking them :-)

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
