2012 Project 365 – Week Thirty-seven

We’re both feeling much better now, and ready for this next week to be a little less crazy.

Saturday, September 8th
I love seeing chickadees at our feeders.

The cypress vine is still attracting hummingbirds – although it won’t be long before they head south.

Another vine that grows along the fence – so fluffy and pretty!

Sunday, September 9th
This was the day I felt the most miserable – ugh! Fortunately Dr. M was on the case taking pictures of birds. LOVE the blue sky behind the dove!

Juvenile goldfinch gorging on thistle seed.

Monday, September 10th
This plant grows in the seam in our driveway. We periodically kill it back, but it’s pretty stubborn. For some reason I kind of like the pattern it makes on the concrete.

A few feet away, in the same seam, a geranium is growing! How hilarious…

Sunset in the Kroger parking lot.

Tuesday, September 11th
Half mast flags at work in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks. A somber day all around.

Except that Dr. M found some beauty…

And a cow, to make me smile.

Wednesday, September 12th
An Ohio Obama barn.

This crow made me laugh out loud.

Squirrel antics.

The Tax Time Pig looking put upon by aliens.

Thursday, September 13th
Dr. M took some great pictures of a couple of red tailed hawks. Here are a few – see his blog for more.

Friday, September 7th
The State of the Bug – wearing a braid for the first time in my life. I’m thinking about getting a good bit of length cut off so I thought I’d try the braid. I’m not sure I was really missing anything – ha!

We had a contest at work for United Way. We had to use food contributions in a creative manner. Some people were VERY creative!

Pirate ship

Do you recognize the figurehead for the ship? Made me laugh out loud!

Etch-a-Sketch with the United Way logo

While I was running around taking pictures of food, Dr. M was taking pictures of beauty. I think it’s safe to say that fall has pretty much arrived in the Ohio heartland.

Go to Sara’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. The Bug uses our new Nikon Coolpix S6200 most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. What a good week in photos! I ADORE that photo of the flowers and the corn. :c)

  2. The pictures of the hawk are great. But you can even make a weed growing on your driveway look great. Amazing.

  3. Oh, great photos! You still have light over there! All the light seems to get sucked out of the Scottish skies as soon as September starts.

And wow, wow, wow to the Red-tailed Kite.

  4. Braid good too. In England, it's a plait, and in Scotland, a pleat.

    Go figure, as some say.

  5. That etch-a-sketch is very cool! You're right, there are some very creative people there.

Enjoying your fall photos. My favorite time of year! It's technically still winter here for another week but it's been in the 90s the last few days, so I think it's safe to say we're in for a killer hot summer.

I like the braid; sort of a Pocahontas look. At one of the historical events y'all attend, when Dr. M dresses like a back woodsman or something, you could go as an Indian girl :)

  6. Love the sunset picture!

And I'm always looking for your squirrel and cow pictures now. I even started to look for cow-picture-taking occasions for myself. Will you promise me that nobody will laugh at me when I pull over to the side of the road, get out of the car, and just start taking pictures of cows?

  7. Sorry, Pixel Peeper, but I can't promise you that. Honestly, I worry less about being laughed at than I worry about being run down or something. The nerve of people to want to go the speed limit when I'm out and about with my camera! :-)

  8. That sunset at Kroger is nice -- talk about finding beauty in the ordinary! And I LOVE the Obama barn. Awesome.

  9. As always your photos make me smile. Loved the red-tail hawk shots the best of the birds. The braid was cute on you. Loved the United Way idea. I am going to bring that up at work. We also do a Can-Do drive each year for Civitans and that would be good for that too.

  10. so many great photos...that incredible blue sky, the geranium, the crow (raven?), oh and the red tail hawk. And really, never wore a braid before? I often had my hair either back in a braid or up in a bun when I wore it long.

  11. Steve Reed: trust me, that is one UGLY parking lot, more so than the average grocery store lot. The Kroger sits on the edge of a former WalMart complex. WalMart moved across the street so they could build a bigger one, abandoning a huge building that just sits there. What does one put in a former WalMart? And so it was with great joy that we beheld such beauty in the midst of such a depressing sea of asphalt :-)

  12. Truly beautiful this week! LOVE the sunset and the fact that you laughed out loud at the crow.

    Creative displays at work, too.

I do a braid probably once a week...its a nice change from the ponytail for me. :)

I firmly believe beauty can be found just about anywhere.

  13. Despite being occupied by viral particles, you seemed to have found quite a bit of beauty around you. I particularly like the picture of the river (or robust stream), surrounded by all of that greenery. The hawk photos are pretty awesome, too.

  14. By the time I get to the end of the photos, I've forgotten what I liked so much! But I do remember that hawk in silhouette against the sky - just marvelous. And who doesn't love the Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story? Not me. That film's my Rocky Horror Picture Show. Every year I sit and watch it and say the lines along with the actors.

Have you seen the babies with the mama squirrel? Gosh, what fun they are.

Glad you're both feeling better. Have a great week!

  15. The kidney weed is rampant this year. I am sick, sick, sick of it. I don't remember it being as hardy last year.

To Pixel Peeper--I often get out on the side of the road to take pictures of Particularly Charming Cows. I even call to them to come closer. What do I care if anyone finds it odd or amusing? The cows almost always come; I usually get wonderful pictures; and the cows are often glad for the company of someone who isn't honking or mooing at them.

(They all really, really hate that.)

  16. Your hair looks good in braids. Don't abandon it without giving it a fair chance.

Your season change is ahead of ours. I can't wait! ;)

  17. i don't know where to start - Tax Time Pig, squirrells, that marching crow, the food-art...but i like the bird that you caught mid-hop the best - it just seems to be hovering with no effort

  18. The food contest looked like fun. Were you involved at all?

  19. I don't know where to begin either!
But, the flowers and corn background is not only stunning, but also brings back all the beautiful miles we rode last week on our tandem vacation. I so enjoying the scenery and the variety of flowers, however I could not stop and take a picture. So, may I borrow yours?
And you look good in braids!

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
