2012 Project 365 – Week Fifty

Today is our 22nd anniversary. As I said on Facebook: 22 years ago this morning I was worrying about walking down the aisle in my huge dress & not tripping. And I was worrying about not laughing when we sang the song about penguins (there wasn't a song about penguins until Dr. M changed the lyrics). And I was absolutely SO EXCITED to be marrying my soul mate. Love you Dr. M!
Saturday, December 8th
The State of the Bug - goofy! Today was graduation at Dr. M’s school. I rode up with him & hung out in his office goofing off. Yes, one of his students gave him a sheep finger puppet. Heh.

After graduation we went to check out a Tiffany window exhibit on campus. It’s called In Company with Angels & I strongly recommend that you go check out their website. The story is pretty amazing. A church in Cincinnati commissioned the windows back at the beginning of the 20th century. There are seven angels representing the seven churches in the Book of Revelation (Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia & Laodicia). The church was torn down in 1964 & the windows ended up in storage in various places until they were “discovered” and brought back to their former glory. They are GORGEOUS. If they ever come near you, you should definitely check them out!

Then on our way home we saw sheep. Imagine that!

Sunday, December 9th
We almost forgot to take a picture today! This is Darcy the Dragon with some new friends.

Monday, December 10th
I LOVE ChicoBags. I keep one in my purse at all times – they’re just the thing if you’re out shopping & don’t want yet another plastic bag. I’ve had a smaller one for a couple of years, but decided to upgrade.

Tuesday, December 11th
Some of our outside decorations.

Today I worked on a couple of hats for a coworker’s twins. I used Jayne the Penguin as my model.

As I suspected, the hats were kind of small – but the girls loved them anyway.

Sunset on our street.

Wednesday, December 12th
Frozen birdbath – I think it looks pretty cool.

The bird feeder has been doing a BRISK business. Which is, frankly, no different than normal.

Thursday, December 13th
I participated in International Put Your Poem In A Shop Month today (apparently I’m just going to do it on Thursdays this year. Go here to read all about it.

Friday, December 14th
Dr. M & I love the tangle of bare branches from the trees behind our back yard. You never know what you might find in them!

On my way home I captured this phenomenon that always amuses me. What I want to know, is how do they decide who gets to stand on top?

And now I’ll insert a mini-rant (please feel free to ignore). Twenty-six people died in a Connecticut school yesterday. Immediately people from both sides of the gun control issue started shouting about how this proved their side to be right. Also, some people started talking about this happening because we “took God out of our schools” (and I have to say that if this is true then I don’t really want to have anything at all to do with that God thank you very much). I’m on the side of gun control because I believe the argument “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” is a bunch of poppycock. But I’m not going to get into an argument about that – people believe what they believe & shouting at them doesn’t change things. I’ll just leave you with this prayer from Mother Barbara at The Geranium Farm:

Even when we fail, when words fail, when tears fail, You will not fail us. We turn to one another, we turn inward and in humility we turn to You. Assist us with your grace to change our world, our nation, our communities, our lives and our minds to the ways of peace and love. And when we fall short, lift us with Divine arms and hold us close until we can try once again.

Go to Sara’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. The Bug uses our new Nikon Coolpix S6200 most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. The angels are amazing and the story behind them even more so. To think they sat in garages and barns for so many years. Unbelievable.

  2. Thank you so much for your friend's name and info in Fargo. She's been very helpful to Bridgie and it's a blessing to me to have someone in the same town that I kind-of-know. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  3. Those angel windows are terrific. Thank goodness they were found and put on display.

Re. guns, I also think the less said at times like this, the better. There will be plenty of time for debate. I think we have to HAVE a debate, or more accurately, continue it -- but first we need to just cope. More importantly, we need to not lose sight of the fact that a lot of people out there need a lot of help, and for whatever reason, they're not getting it. That's the REAL crisis.

  4. I am overwhelmed by my grief and profound disappointment, and I do not even live in CT or know anyone involved. I cannot stop feeling as if politics have made this an ugly and unfeeling country when it comes right down to it.

And I could not disagree more with Steve. Everyone waits, and more people die. If the debate widens to include mental health, social ills, health care, etc., it becomes too unwieldy. Yes, it's a crisis, and a terrible one. Better to start small and with common sense initiatives. And immediately. Columbine was the beginning far too long ago, and absolutely nothing happened as a result. Chardon, here in Ohio, happened less than a year ago, and absolutely nothing happened as a result. How long do we wait? What do we stand for?

  5. So what do the birds do when the bird bath is frozen...ice skate?

I don't have the answers on gun control, but I wish mental health care were as easy to come by as a gun.

  10. Happy anniversary to you and Dr. M. I look so forward to your shots each week and you never fail me. The shot of the birds all flocking to the bird feeder was amazing. Loved it!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
