A Not the Least Bit Wordless Wednesday

I tried to write a poem, then it turned into prose, and then, ugh. Maudlin city. So I’ll just say this: Dr. M & I are missing our moms this week. My mom (gone 8 years now) would have been 71 today (and she would just be flabbergasted at that fact). And we lost Dr. M’s mom two years ago on June 21st.

Dr. M's hooding ceremony. So glad his parents were able to come to Cincinnati to attend it!

My high school graduation - more years ago than I want to discuss!

Of all the things I wish I could say to my mom today, here is the top of the list: “When you were pregnant with me did your water really break at my Aunt Vivian’s basketball game? Oh, and I love you!!”

What would you say to your mom? If she's still around, go & say it to her right now!

  1. Warm hugs to you both this week. I'm fortunate enough to still have both of mine, but see the progression of time making its march.

  2. I didn't so much graduate from high school as receive an honorable (?) discharge. My mom was a very positive person. Just think about every positive adjective...or is it adverb?...you know. That's what my mom said 24/7. Love and miss you mom. :)

  4. I'm of the mind that my mom is both gone AND still around, so I'm always talking to her. And that pic of you and your mom, soooo 80s!

    Sending warm thoughts your way.

    1. You're right - 1982 :)

Yes - I do have conversations with my mom too. Mostly about how I don't care what she says, I am NOT ironing those pants!

  5. The prof looks great in his "cap and gown" and his parents look very pleased. As does your mom at your graduation.

  6. My mom is eighty-eight years old and I talk to her twice a day on the phone. I can't think of anything I haven't said to her.

  8. Bug, I can't believe it. I've tried three times to leave a comment but my computer keeps making them disappear. So I'm just going to say quickly how cute you both look in your gowns. It's nice to look back and remember such nice days.

  9. My mom is trapped in the custody of American Airlines as she tries to get here for my dad's interment at Arlington this Friday. She's 76 years old and texting me every time they delay her further. Is that cool or what?

So ... we almost lost her to a car accident and then breast cancer in 1986. At that time I realized there was nothing left unsaid between us, which was wonderful. Now I look back hoping I haven't undone all that good! ha ha

Both moms and that dad look pretty proud!

    1. I don't think my mom would have gotten into texting - she mostly wanted her phone to have giant numbers that she could see :)

  10. Awww...your post has me a little misty-eyed! Love the pictures.

My mom, of course, is in Germany - and it's after 11:00 p.m. there, so I'm not going to call. LOL. I might tell her that flying is nothing to be afraid of. (She wouldn't listen).

Actually, I'm much closer to my mother-in-law. I always joke that in case of a divorce, my husband will get the house, I'll get his parents.

    1. I dated a guy once mostly for his fabulous family (he wasn't quite as fabulous). I really missed them after we broke up :)

  11. I've always talked to my mom, most often when one of my children was driving me nuts. I would shout out loud, "Yes, Mom. You told me, I just didn't believe it" When I see something she would have loved I am so sorry she isn't here to appreciate it. My husband and I are forever saying, "Wouldn't Edna have loved that?" She was gone way too soon. And I miss her every single day.

    1. That's exactly how I feel about my mom. There's usually at least one moment in the day when I wish she were still here.

  12. I like wordful Wednesdays better than wordless ones, I must admit.

My mom is still around -- in fact I'll be seeing her in a couple of weeks. I know I'm fortunate on that count. These pictures are very touching.

    1. Thanks Steve. I have to say that it's hard to bite my tongue & not provide commentary to the Wednesday pictures!

  13. Big hug...I know what you mean. I miss my mom and dad a lot. My mom's birthday would be on July 9th. She would have been 84. I loved the pictures you guys put up.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
