2013 Project 365 – Week Thirty-two

What a weird week! Our pictures look pretty normal, but this week just seemed out of kilter to me. Today was nice & low-key, so maybe this next week won’t feel so odd.

Sunday, August 4th
A friend from church rode her motorcycle on Sunday. I had to get a picture :)

The daylilies are winding down.

The flower garden Dr. M planted for me is just popping with color! This picture is not enhanced in any way!

The yarrow is still pretty with its more subdued color palette.

Goldfinch!

Monday, August 5th
I’ve been drinking mostly water lately. Today I added blueberries – yum!

The last daylily of summer :(

Bumble on the hanging basket.

Tuesday, August 6th
Tuesday was for the birds – ha! Here’s a house finch.

Juvenile robin.

Hummingbird on a wire.

Wednesday, August 7th
We had pictures taken for the church directory. Our appointment was at 7:10. We got home at 9:45.

The State of the Bug: Tired & annoyed!

Thursday, August 8th
Grackle!

Rosie.

Rainbow after the storm.

Friday, August 9th
I was originally going to get 15 bags of mulch for the church yard. Dr. M said he didn’t think 15 bags would fit, so I just got six. Here’s the Bugly with three bags still in it. I don’t know why he thought 12 more bags wouldn’t fit. Ha! I do NOT have good spatial orientation.

Our army of tomatoes is growing. The small ones are volunteers. The larger ones are Fourth of July tomatoes (just a tad late).

Saturday, August 10th
I posted this on Facebook: I used to be the Four Leaf Clover Queen (well at least the Queen of our yard) - my bible had dozens of four (& five & six) leaf clovers pressed in its pages. I finally decided to quit picking them & now I just take pictures. I have a "pet" four leaf clover in our yard. Periodically I go by & grin at it. So I had to run out & take a picture.

Another shot of the flower garden – again, this is unedited. Gorgeous!

This hummingbird came by while Dr. M was checking out our volunteer sunflower. She didn’t see anything she wanted so she went on her way.

Every time the neighbor across the street mows, his boys get out there with their mowers. It’s just about the cutest thing ever. This isn’t a great picture – I was trying to be sneaky.

Go to Mamma Fran’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. He also takes pictures with our old reliable 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710.  The Bug uses our new Nikon Coolpix S6200 most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. I love how you lined up your tomatoes :-)

And that picture of your neighbor mowing and his boys "mowing" is precious. You should print it out and give it to them!

    1. It IS precious. We should volunteer to take some pics for them. They asked me once if I did family photos, etc., which I don't, but I'm sure they would like some candids of those cute kids helping dad.

  2. I also love the picture of the entire family mowing. O also like the winding down daylily. Is it my overactive imagination or does that picture look like growing bacon?

    1. Ha! It DOES look like bacon growing, Stephen! Yum...

  3. I do like that photo of the kiddos and their dad. It is a good one despite you trying to be sneaky!

Are the highlighted pics the ones you chose to order?

  4. I like the careful way you laid out your tomatoes. The goldfinch is beautiful. And you know, I think I see yarrow over here -- but I had no idea what it was.

    1. Thanks, Steve. I have a thing for geometry, it seems. You almost certainly see yarrow over there! It grows throughout Europe, and its Latin name, Achillea millefolium, reflects the legend that Achilles's army carried it with them into battle, as it was useful in treatment of wounds.

  5. Love the little guys mowing. Looks like dad is thinking ahead to his lawn-mowing retirement days. ;)

    1. Ha! My thoughts exactly...a few more years and dad is set to retire...for awhile, anyway. Very cute kids.

  6. great pics as always. loved the birds and the flowers. and what's up with photographers and the pose with the hand curled under the chin. nobody ever does that! you might use a fist or an open palm to hold your head up but the curled hand under the chin?

    1. Thanks, Ellen. I didn't get the chin thing, either. I liked the close-up of Bug, but I thought I looked goofy as heck. Nonetheless, she wanted a copy of that one. I guess she's learned to love goofy after all these years :-)

  7. I'm such a stickler for safety...I'd likely tell the neighbor about the dangers of having the boys in the yard while he's mowing. As a nurse I saw far too many injuries from rocks thrown from lawnmowers.

Love the directory photographs as well as the others.

    1. I know...it's only cute until someone gets hurt. I have a cracked window I need to get replaced from a tiny rock apparently thrown by my mower. The little shaver penetrated the screen and cracked the outer pane of our double-pane window. That surely would have drawn blood on a human. I'm sure our mutual friend Jayne, who is a wound specialist, would agree.

    1. Thanks! It was fun to see him in full light instead of shadow. We love our birdies.

  9. yesterday I watched a lady load up her items from Home Depot and ride away on her motorcycle. So funny.

Your flower garden is just beautiful!! My favorite is F117.

  10. I don't have a photographer's eye. I can't sense what would make a good photo, but I love looking at everyone else's.

  11. you had some good results with those tomatoes - the slugs always get ours :(

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
