Monday Miscellany

Oops - just a bit late today. We're in NC checking up on the Dads, and once again it's a bittersweet trip. You might recall that Dr. M's aunt died while we were here at Christmas. This time, his uncle passed away. We're going to his funeral tomorrow. While we were here at Christmas we were so glad to have spent some time with him at the last funeral. Uncle Barry was a man who always had a quick smile & funny story. We'll miss him!

Dr. M's dad has surgery next week. We'll know more about his condition after that.

It wasn't until Lisa's comment last week that I realized I had never updated about my shingles. That antiviral medication was a miracle drug! I had very little pain after taking it, some itching & burning, but not much, the rash didn't spread, and it was pretty much a non-event after about a week. Amazing!

Dr. M decided that our room at the hotel was designed for basketball players. The dimensions are huge and the beds are SO TALL. I measured to the top of the bed is 31" off the floor. I feel like Edith Ann when I get in it.

Here are my latest crochet squares. I'm caught up with the new colors & on to square #5.

Finally, I was challenged on Facebook to post nature photographs for seven days. I just posted my first one today - some Henbit from my dad's yard. I was happy to see that bee!

I hope you all have a good week!

  1. My condolences on Uncle Barry's passing. It's difficult when family is far away...you never get to spend as much time with them as you'd like.

I'm glad your shingles episode was over quickly. From what I understand, it can be a horribly painful drawn-out nightmare.

  2. Yes, sorry to hear of your family's loss. It was interesting to hear there is a treatment for shingles that works. I hope I never have it, but if I do... :)

    1. Yep - get the drug within 72 hours of the first sign of shingles & it should help a lot!

  3. I remember when the uncle I was closest to passed away. During his funeral all I could think about was all the time I missed with him. So sorry to hear about your loss.

Glad to hear there is a treatment for shingles

  4. So that's called "henbit"? I never knew! I learned it was called "dead nettle," but I guess like many plants it probably has multiple names. Glad the shingles meds worked well, and sorry about Dr M's loss.

    1. Henbit & dead nettle are two different things (as I discovered when I was trying to find out what the henbit is called). There's a third plant that's also similar.

(Or, after I just tried to find the website & couldn't, henbit & dead nettle are the same thing, except that purple dead nettle is something different. Ha!)

  5. the squares look great. I don't think I would ever tackle something that complex. all of my older generation has passed away now. my sister is the oldest person in my family now.

    1. The nice thing about the complexity of the squares is that you just do one thing & then the next thing & then suddenly you have this square. I usually can't believe that I actually made it.

And I find you comment hilarious given the complex art you create all the time!

  6. I spend SO MUCH TIME pulling that weed out of my herb garden! And out of my stone paths. If today's forecast is finally correct, I will probably be able to start doing it this afternoon.

    Cross your fingers!

  8. Hope all goes well with Dr. M's dad. I know how hard it can be to live so far away from family. I'm so happy for your recovery from shingles. I was not nearly so fortunate and now have post-herpetic neuropathy. No rash but continued pain at the site. Bummer.

  9. So sorry about Dr. M's uncle. Losing people is one of the hardest things about getting older. The worst is when our parents go. I hope both of your dads are doing well.

I love your story about shingles. They can be horrible. Glad the meds worked for you.

  10. So sorry to hear of your loss of another loved family member. Hope both Dads are keeping as well as possible. Glad your shingles didn't get a chance to develop too much. Getting the meds as soon as possible is the secret.

  12. The picture of your legs hanging over the very-high-bed is hilarious. And I know exactly what you mean. In my senior years I feel I have to take a running jump sometimes to get into bed! And in my senior years, running jumps ain't easy!

    1. Yeah - there was no running & jumping involved for me. I just climbed up there like a little kid - ha!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
