"Wordless Wednesday" (You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.)

I am in Austin, Texas for work & I was going to do a post about my wonderful visit on Sunday with the fabulous Ellen Abbot of Stuff from Ellen's Head, but she beat me to it. You can read about the visit here. As is usual these days I didn't take very many pictures - and she has posted the best one that I took (the one of her). Ellen figured out that I first commented on her blog in August 2009, so we've known each other for quite a while. It was so good to meet in person!

Since Ellen took care of that post, I'm going to share some of what Dr. M has been up to since I've been away, plus a bonus moon. We get some of the strangest birds!

  1. How cool that you got to meet a fellow blogger! I'll have to check out more of Ellen's blog now (well, maybe this weekend). Your visit sounds like it was a great success. And isn't it the weirest feeling, meeting someone for the first time and feeling like old friends?

    Strange birds, indeed!

  2. That racoon looks demonic. Glad you got to meet a fellow blogger. When will you be coming to the Northwest?

  3. Or the great Southwest. (Don't let 'em fool ya. Texas is NOT in the Southwest.)

  4. Ellen is very artistic and does etched glass murals. They are so beautiful. It is great that you were able to go and meet her. Rocky Raccoon on the other hand must be really hungry if he is raiding your bird seeds. I guess he is storing supplies for the winter.

  5. that raccoon looks downright demonic. and I had no idea they could climb metal poles like that and it doesn't even look like rebar with ridges to grab. well, the birds empty my little totem feeder by mid-morning so nothing left to tempt a raccoon be night. and yes, wasn't it fun to meet!

  6. You visited Ellen -- that's awesome! I haven't seen her post yet but will go there forthwith. Meanwhile, that raccoon looks lit from within -- those retinas are intense!

  7. Those rascals are so very clever, aren't they. Love the moon shot as well as the other photographs.

  8. Those humming birds are beautiful. Raccoons are very clever and cunning little thieves. One kept stealing my brother's bird seed. He put it in a fairly large metal can with a tight-fitting lid on the deck and waited. He thought that would work. He finally caught the little bugger in the act one night. He stomped out of the house yelling and screaming, and the darned raccoon just hooked his arm under the handle of the can and dragged the whole thing off the deck. They are determined little critters.

  9. Reminds me of when we first met F2F, like old friends.
Was Ellen in the same bloggy circle? Would I remember her?

  10. I'm so glad you got to meet Ellen. It is fun to experience that sense of familiarity on a first meeting. As for that raccoon -- well. I think they're just the neatest creatures. My first encounter with their cleverness came when one boarded the sailboat I was on. We were tied up next to the shore at an island, and the danged thing not only came on board, it ate all my favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies. They're not only smart, they have good taste.

  11. LOL at the mental movie of @Bella Rum's comment. That is one tough raccoon.

  12. That must be some seriously radioactive bird seed for that raccoon to develop laser vision. Several years ago my wife left one of the garage doors open and around 1:00am that morning I heard what sounded like someone trying to break in the house. Opened the door and saw a raccoon on the garage doorstep.

It was a cordial meeting but we both agreed to go our separate ways.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
