The Mystery of the Disappearing Glass Cleaner (A Guest Post from Dr. M)

Wherein The Bug and I spend the better part of a day searching for said item. Best we can figure, she left the cleaner sitting beside the back door, where she had been using it. Apparently I picked it up and put it in the rag bag where it lives? (Vague memory.)

THEN, or so we would have you believe, the cleaner leapt of its own accord from the rag bag into the nearby recycling can.

From there, it was unceremoniously dumped into the outside bin, where it was unearthed after an exhaustive indoor search (not to mention two less thorough looks into the big bin).

(Note from The Bug: you can't see it very well, but there is a stink bug on the counter in the last picture with the cleaner. Stink bugs are like cats. You don't want them on the counter. You tell them to stay off the counter. They go where they will.)

  1. Ha! Well at least you found it. I'm impressed you thought to look in the outdoor recycling bin. I'm not sure that would ever have occurred to me.

    1. I actually had started looking in it to find a "dusting mitt" that I thought had fallen into the indoor bin, so that gave us the idea to look for the cleaner in there. (The mitt was in the laundry hamper - I found it when I was looking for the glass cleaner. The circle of life - ha!)

  2. I'd have never given up on that glass cleaner, either. It would have bothered me simply because I KNEW IT HAD TO BE SOMEWHERE! Glad you solved the mystery. What a twisted journey it took.

    1. It was driving us crazy! I mean, there are just two of us & even though we both can be forgetful, this was just too much.

  3. I'd have just bought a new bottle.

    1. I had already given up & put it on the grocery list when Mike found it :)

  4. Dr. M, doesn't quantum mechanics suggest it's entirely possible that an object, like a bottle of glass cleaner, could suddenly disappear then reappear in another location.

Yeah, the science types say this almost exclusively happens in the subatomic realm. But that if you wait long enough it could happen in the macro universe.

Of course, it happens to socks all the time. Somehow common household laundry dyers are teleportation tunnels for one sock.

    1. We actually have a lone sock in our laundry basket right now - the mate was lost a few months ago. We think it might have gotten into the recycle bin by accident. Ha!

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
