Snow Lies
Snow Lies
The snow lies softly
on the curve of the bare branch
as if its touch might arouse
as if this frozen blanket
might cause the sap
to burst through the
wound of your heart
as if you might awaken
to find my hand
on the curve of your bare arm
as if I might melt into
dark dormant bark
and wait for spring

ReplyDeleteThis made my eyes tear up... in a good way.
ReplyDeleteWow! Just WOW!!
ReplyDeleteVery pictorial.
ReplyDeleteNow see? That's what I love about you! You take a four letter word and turn it into something beautiful.
ReplyDeleteInteresting -- you've used a cold substance to create an overall impression of warmth!
ReplyDeleteI love this poem. It was awesome...totally!
ReplyDeleteYou know, the more I reread this the more I hear Angelica's (Meg Ryan) voice from Joe Versus the Volcano - I don't know why, but it feels like something she would write :)
ReplyDeletevery nice
ReplyDeleteI like the irony of "Lies" in your title, Bug. So sardonic the voice we can hear if we want to read it that way. Two conflicting juxtaposed levels makes goose bumps, girl...
ReplyDeleteAnd these lines have plenty of power:
"might cause the sap
to burst through the
wound of your heart"
They wring my own heart.
This is a wonderful poem!
ReplyDeleteThis one is wonderful, Bug! I often wished to "melt into dark dormant bark and wait for spring." I just didn't know how to say it.
ReplyDeleteGentle and powerful.

ReplyDeleteWell I definitely liked studying it. This information provided by you is very practical for proper planning.
ReplyDeleteSorel Women's Helen Of Tundra Boot
Really beautiful. I like the repetition of "as if" - very, very nice.
ReplyDeleteLetters for a birthday? That's inspired! Hope your cold goes well away and stays away.
ReplyDeleteAnd YAY for tax-time pig!
