Today was the beginning of my favorite time of year – Daylight Saving
(Savings, Savings’, Saving’s, etc. etc.) Time. As I have discussed many times
before, I am not a morning person so I don’t care what the sun is doing then.
Is it dark when I’m going to work? Well, SO IS MY SOUL JANET. Evening sun is a
balm for me. Now, to remember to go to bed in a timely manner. Sunday,
March 1st Dr. M & me at my family birthday celebration. Once again, I took no photos of other people - oops! But check out Dr. M's t-shirt. It is the TRUTH.
Monday,
March 2nd A tale of two vehicles, seen on my lunch hour (the first one is a paving business).
My
latest t-shirt. This one is from Penzey’s Spices (this is the first of two Penzey’s
sightings this week).
Tuesday, March 3rd – my birthday! Birthday
flowers from Dr. M – so pretty! I also had a piece of cake as big as my head.
Full disclosure? I had another piece later, and then more on Wednesday.
Wednesday, March 4th Sheep!
Thursday,
March 5th Spent
my lunch hour finishing this flip the bird project. It makes me laugh. I’ve already
made another one. Ha!
Then I
ate this Nothing Bundt Banana Pudding flavored cake that my coworker gave me.
It was DELICIOUS. To be honest, my body is ready for my birthday to be over.
Friday,
March 6th Spring
in Lincoln County. So pretty!
Saturday,
March 7th My
birthday present from Dr. M. These are my favorite spices from his Penzey’s Advent
calendar. I use them in my omelets – so yummy. And the box came with a free bumper
sticker!
OK, I need to get off of this computer & eat the very last part of
my birthday celebration. It’s a week old cupcake and I will just be eating the
icing off of it because I’m sure the cake part is dry as dust. Will report back
later. How was your week?
P.S. My nephew in the army has been put on alert because of the war in Iran. Our family is holding our breath, hoping he doesn't have to go to the Middle East.
People. It is MARCH. February was simultaneously 50 years long and 2
minutes long. I feel a little discombobulated about it, to be honest. Also I guess we're at war? Oof. Sunday,
February 22nd Sue’s church had a spaghetti lunch fundraiser for the youth and I got
to participate. I enjoyed spending time with Dad & Sue, the spaghetti was
good, the dessert was excellent, and I got to see my friend Jenny! Side note: I used my hair coloring crayons on Saturday for my church's game night and not a single person commented until I went to work on Monday. The perils of being a brunette - as you can see, it's not all the noticeable. I'm giving them to a little girl at church.
Monday,
February 23rd What
might have been…
Tuesday, February 24th Our
backyard chicken. Dr. M looks out the window most days & sees her rootling
around in the leaves that he left behind (on purpose because bugs for
chickens!).
Wednesday, February 25th Every time I wear this sweater I get compliments
– and people think I made it. I did not – a coworker found it at a thrift shop
& thought it looked like me & she was right!
Thursday,
February 26th There’s
a big sign on that road telling trucks DO NOT TURN RIGHT. This is why – it’s a very
sharp, uphill turn and they can’t do it. But about once a quarter or so some
nimrod doesn’t pay attention. Fortunately I could turn right to get to work.
But get it together man! (I’m assuming it’s a man – ha!)
Friday,
February 27th I
pulled my hair back to wash my face at bedtime and started cackling because my
hair was giving someone the finger. I’ll bet we know who!
Saturday,
February 28th Dr. M
got some Easter flowers for his mother’s grave, and while he was there he found
henbit on an infant’s grave. Spring is getting ready to spring, even amongst
sad memories.
Speaking of sad memories, today is the 9th anniversary of
our very traumatic move back home to NC. Whew. We kind of try to not remember
it, but if you want to relive the drama you can go here.
In other news, my birthday is Tuesday, and Dr. M had the brilliant
idea to cook for my family for lunch today. He made pulled pork and it was
FABULOUS. So good. We had a lovely lunch with Dad, Sue, and my brother and his
wife. I felt well celebrated.
State of the Bug Update: Week 3 ½ of no pain medication and while I
have noticed an increase in random pain, it’s not as bad as I feared. My
shoulder does hurt a good bit more, but I think that’s not related to
medication – I just really do need a shoulder replacement at some point. Also,
I’ve cut WAYYY back on my consumption of Diet Sundrop (because it’s bad for
kidneys too), and I haven’t had any headaches and my sleepiness during day has
basically stayed the same. So, although I will continue to be a drama queen,
things aren’t as desperate as I thought they would be.
Monday,
November 10th I sent
this to Dr. M with the caption “What fresh hell is this?” Note: we didn’t get
any snow to speak of.
Tuesday, November 11th Here I
am modeling the sweater. I’ve already been working on the yoke because it's too big – I was worried that it was going to fall completely off my
shoulders!
Wednesday,
November 12th No photo. Thursday,
November 13th Dr. M’s
birthday! I felt like my gift to him was inspired this year – a Penzy’s Spices
Advent Calendar! Here is the cover and the two inside “pages” – if you look
closely you can see the little doors you’re supposed to open. I can't wait to see what all spices we get.
Friday,
November 14th Dr. M
bought his own damned birthday cake and it has been delicious!
Saturday,
November 15th Dr. M brought Ms. Pinky in for the night
earlier in the week, but she’s back outside for now & still blooming!
The national news this week has just been
crazypants. If it weren’t so serious it would almost be laughable – and that’s
just what we want in our government administration, right? Oof. How was your
week? Less stressful than the President’s?
Dr. M says that Rudbeckia takes its own sweet time opening up.
Monday, June 9th
Tiny Jesus apparently had a rough pentecost.
Tuesday, June 10th
Progress! Pretty pretty.
Wednesday, June 11th
I hear ya Emo Daisy, I hear ya.
Thursday, June 12th
I was amused that I decided that my Snoopy earrings match my daisy jewelry. And really, it IS appropriate since Charlie Brown got him from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm.
Friday, June 13th
Our porch mum is looking lovely!
Saturday, June 14th
Dr. M wandered around the yard this morning.
I went to Elliott’s 2nd birthday party! He THOROUGHLY enjoyed his cupcake. And his Mimi’s cupcake. And would have dived into mine if I hadn’t already eaten it. He is adorable.
His brother is also adorable. He was so very serious going in circles in his car - I posted this video on the socials with the caption: My great nephew Grayson is all of us right now.
Finally, Dr. M brought home some blueberries from his dad’s blueberry bush! I can’t wait to dive in.
I’m feeling a disconnect between the normality of my personal life and the insanity of the world around me. How about you? How are you holding up?
It is finished! A little wonky, a lot colorful, and DONE.
Monday, May 19th
No photo.
Tuesday, May 20th
No photo. I spent the whole day (and Wednesday & Thursday) at our Rec Center meeting room helping employees with their open enrollment paperwork. By Thursday evening I had worked with at least 80 folks. Most folks just turned their packets in to HR - I’ll go in tomorrow to check all those in & see how many of the 650 we’re still missing.
Wednesday, May 21st
I spent some quality time between helping employees checking out the debris on the floor, leftover from an activity the night before. There wasn’t a lot, but what there was, was very intriguing. I think I would probably have wanted to participate!
Thursday, May 22nd
Seen around the yard. Pretty pretty!
Friday, May 23rd
Felt cute (if maniacal), will definitely not delete it later.
We have daylilies!
Saturday, May 24th
Dr. M’s Pop’s 93rd birthday was Friday, but he celebrated with friends, so we visited with him on Saturday instead. First, we had lunch with Dr. M’s aunt and cousins (Pop would NOT have enjoyed eating at a restaurant for two days in a row), then we went by his house to wish him a happy birthday.
After we got home I hiked up to the neighbor’s house to get some photos of their glorious cactus - wowza!
This week was so crazy busy and peopley that I am only now feeling more normal - just in time to start all over again. On top of all the open enrollment stuff going on we have 17 new hires starting on Tuesday (we usually have 3-5). I’ll have to do the orientation with them, and then later in the week enter all their benefits in the payroll system. So just to keep on top of everything I’m going into the office tomorrow. How about you? What does your week look like?
I’d like to blame the current administration for the state of my nails, but in fact they break off every year at this time. It’s like they do such a great job of making it through the winter, and then say “nah dawg - we’re done,” when spring is in sight. Rude.
Sunday, March 2nd
Spring training baseball! I look a little maniacal here. Ha!
Monday, March 3rd
My birthday! I had pound cake and banana pudding at work, and Dr. M picked some daffodils for me. And he got me a new vacuum cleaner! I actually asked for it - I was about to throw our other one off the porch. He also got me something else, but you have to wait until next week to see it (it just came today). I also went out shopping with my bestie - it’s been a long time since I had someone in the dressing room with me helping me decide what to buy.
Tuesday, March 4th
I posted a before and after shot - last year’s birthday & this year’s birthday. Even though I know in my head that I’ve lost 63 pounds, I hadn’t really realized what a big difference there was!
Wednesday, March 5th
Ash Wednesday.
Thursday, March 6th
I took today & Friday off from work, and spent some time running errands (dr. appointment, oil change, groceries). Meanwhile, Dr. M spent some time with the cat whisperer.
Friday, March 7th
We had my family birthday party today. It was great spending time with dad & Sue, my brother & his wife. But we all know who the stars of the show were.
Saturday, March 8th
Dr. M came home from checking on his Pop and did some very productive deck sitting!
The time changes tomorrow and while I’m happy about it (team DST forever), I am NOT happy about how long it will take my body to get used to it. How do you feel about DST?
