2026 Project 365 – Week One

Ah! A fresh new year, filled with the same old bull$hit. I’m a little het up about our new unprovoked war. In addition to an unsanctioned military action and all the terrible fallout that will arise, I know two people whose travel plans were affected by grounded planes.
Sunday, December 28th
We had our 41st Friendsmas today. It was a lovely time with some of my oldest friends.

Monday, December 29th
Just me being a menace while mall walking. I’m getting quite a nice collection of “statement” t-shirts!

Tuesday, December 31st
I stopped by dad & Sue’s and checked out their new TV console – with fake fire insert! I was VERY SKEPTICAL, but I think it looks pretty nice.

Wednesday, December 31st
I caught a cold and ditched the New Year’s Eve party that I was planning to go to. Dr. M & I stayed in and watched Independence Day. This scene always has me sobbing – oof.

Anyway, I was in bed by 10:00 and hardly roused at all when I heard what might have been gunfire or fireworks at midnight (we live out in the country so it’s a tossup either way).

Thursday, January 1st
A lovely lowkey day where I actually cleaned our floors for the first time in a while. The only photo I have is a screenshot of my BeReal 2025 mood board. Ha!

Friday, January 2nd
Back at work, and still with a cold, so I masked up while meeting with an employee. It took me a minute to remember how to tie the strings tighter (cause I got a little head) and make sure it was snug enough to not fog up my glasses. My only problem was that the mask is really too big for my face (the aforementioned little head) and it kept creeping up into my eyes.

Saturday, January 3rd
Last night on my way home from my dad’s my car started making a weird thumping noise, so I left it in the CVS parking lot and asked my dad if I could borrow his car until we sort it out. He came & rescued me (thanks Dad!) and I finally made it home after I had taken him back home. Today I went to pick him up so we could move the car to his house until we get an appointment with the mechanic. He drove it from CVS & thinks it might be the drive train or transmission. Oof. On the other hand, Dr. M went to take care of his dad and got to see sheep on the way home!

I’m still kind of sick – I have a little cough and apparently a lot of drainage because I kind of sound like I could sing bass tomorrow at church. And it’s a big day tomorrow – choir practice, the service, a potluck, a meeting with a regional UCC representative, and then an installation service for our new associate pastor – at which I am supposed to read. So! Some good vibes appreciated!

2025 Project 365 – Week Fifteen

My lime green polish started chipping almost right away, so it went into the trash & my nails are nekkid AGAIN. I’m not really meant for the manicure life…

Sunday, April 6th

I was wearing my penguin toppers in solidarity with the tariffed penguins. Leave my penguins alone!

Meanwhile, Dr. M’s brunch was adorable.

I got some new toppers in the mail (I had a gift card from a coworker!). This small business has the option of letting the creator choose the finish & I always do (because I figure she knows best). Well, she picked the glow in the dark finish for these Down Syndrome toppers and I was absolutely tickled pink. Also, I’m pretty sure I would terrify Elliott if he saw me wearing these in the dark.

Monday, April 7th

Here’s another topper from that order. This one makes me very happy too.

Tuesday, March April 8th

I sent this photo to Dr. M to show him the bag of pretzels that greeted the small pouch of pretzels I had brought for lunch. How is one Bug supposed to keep track of all her snacks? (P.S. Note the already chipped polish.)

When I got home from work my latest square had a photo op. No coral on this one. Sorry!

Wednesday, April 9th

Dr. M made braised chuck roast with rice and broccoli and I have to say that my low iron is definitely not his fault. So yummy!

Thursday, April 10th

I went to my local yarn shop (LYS) to look for wool wash and saw this bag. I might have to go back & buy it!

Friday, April 11th

Dr. M brought home another hanging basket, and our azalea is blooming.

Saturday, March April 12th

Dr. M says: Today’s sunset marks the beginning of Passover, according to the Hebrew calendar. As is often the case, Passover, or Pesach in anglicized Hebrew, coincides with the first full moon after the vernal equinox. In North America, this is the Pink Moon, named for the native pink phlox. Ours in Plateau is beginning to fade, even as azaleas are in their glory. I don’t know if I will have a clear sky overhead tonight, but I’ll try to catch the Pink Moon if I can. For all my Jewish friends and those of us who love them, Chag Pesach Sameach!

The father-in-law of one of our fab four passed away this week, so Kim, her husband, and I drove up to the mountains to the visitation. There’s still so much devastation there, 6 months after Helene swept through. It was a reminder to me that things that are torn down don’t get rebuilt overnight. So, if we survive this current administration, it will be a while before we can recognize our country again.

2024 Project 365 – Week Thirty-nine

This was a week of mourning and calls to action, of sitting with disbelief and getting shit done, of wanting to change our climate wrecking ways and missing our creature comforts. Also there were wars and rumors of wars, lies and damned lies, and the US election train barreling down the tracks. Whew!

Sunday, September 29th

Day three of no power. We took our laundry to Dad & Sue’s house and Dr. M talked politics with Dad while Sue & I went to our churches. Then my brother & his wife came over and we had lunch. It was nice! But no photos of that - instead you get photos of our homesteading efforts that night. This was a time when I was really glad to have books on my kindle app on my phone - no need to try to read by lantern light!

Monday,  September 30th

No photo today, so here is a picture of our sheep neighbors from last week. They remind me of this sheep art installation from a few years ago - ha!

Tuesday, October 1st

Our power came back on! Woohoo!

Wednesday, October 2nd

No photo.

Thursday, October 3rd

I just wanted to give a shout out to the spider in my shower this morning. Most of the time I have to perform some sort of gymnastic routine to avoid washing my visitors down the drain. This little dude(ette?) scurried behind the shower curtain & has lived to see another day. Good work! Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.

Friday, October 4th

I finally updated my wooden calendar and I had to laugh at myself. Dr. M painted a lovely square for Columbus Day, but of course that’s something we don’t really celebrate anymore. Last year I just left it off. This year I tried something different. Ha! (Note: I added the vote square to the show first day of early voting in NC.)

Saturday, October 5th

I’ve spent the day catching up on reading and cleaning the house. A couple of weeks ago I signed up to write postcards to send to voters and they arrived yesterday - all 200 of them. Oh my goodness what in the world was I thinking? I have terrible handwriting and also I have some arthritis or some such in my right thumb. I think I’m supposed to have a card writing party, but that involves asking people and arranging things. However, I have 21 days before I’m supposed to mail them & if I do 10 per day then I shouldn’t have to try to gather friends together in some fashion. Sounds like a plan to me!

I am the Queen of Compartmentalizing so because I was trying to not think too much about the devastation to the west of me I was SO PRODUCTIVE at work this week! I started tackling a big project I’ve been dreading, and also took care of some other things that I’d been avoiding. Now that it’s the weekend I’m allocating more of my bandwidth to the world around me. Hard but necessary focus. What are you doing this weekend?

2023 Project 365 – Week Twenty-four

Lots of pictures this week and I have no regrets. Well, I might have a few regrets, but not as regards photos.
Sunday, June 11th
I was listening to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (I’d never read it!) and it got to the part about Babel Fish and that’s all I have to say about that. (Is this is most unflattering photo I’ve ever posted of myself? I say maaaayyyybbbeee…)

Monday, June 12th
Coneflowers (heart emoji, heart emoji, heart emoji)

Tuesday, June 13th
No photo.

Wednesday, June 14th
Dr. M says: Danabug and I are well into our 15th season of living in farm country. Sharing the country roads (or even city streets in Xenia) with farmers and their equipment requires vigilance, patience, and respect. Don’t be afraid to slow down, hit the emergency blinkers, and tail a tractor pulling an impressive trailer of hay. Trust me: there are rewards, like easing through a shady hollow at tractor speed or the sheer beauty of a ripe field of wheat. And sometimes there are sheep!

Then when he got home he got an earful from the latest phoebe.

And then when I got home I got a special delivery!

Thursday, June 15th
Dr. M says: Singles, doubles, grand slams…you would think I’m obsessed with baseball. (To be fair, I’m also obsessed. A bit.)

Squish City!

When I got home I had another special delivery. I don’t know why I hadn’t gotten this light sooner – it’s a crochet game changer! (Also, Dr. M said something about headlights. Rude.)

Friday, June 16th
Dr. M had “fun” updating two ancient laptops and one semi-ancient iPad.

Meanwhile I made an owl!

Saturday, June 17th
Lovely Lincoln County…

Two newcomers to the yard – asters and Ms. Pinky has deigned to send up a bloom.

My brother & I took Dad & Sue out for dinner (for Father’s Day). We had a lovely time. I amused myself by printing out a copy of the card I made him back in 2004, from when I used to belong to the Stampin’ Up cult. Ha!

Today is Father’s day, and I walked with my dad at the mall. We had a nice amble and discussed many important things. I hope my dad readers had a nice day. And my non-dad readers as well. Now I’m off to make a bear!

2023 Project 365 – Week Five

This has been a very quiet week on social media for me – a lovely poem by Maren Tirabassi that I shared yesterday was my first post since last Sunday. Fortunately, Dr. M posted a couple of things, and I did take a few photos. I don’t know what’s going on, but I think maybe I’m hibernating.
Sunday, January 29th
My sister-in-law Door Dashed lunch to my dad’s house and we all had a lovely time visiting and working this puzzle. It looks innocent, but as is the way of most puzzles, it is, in fact, evil.

Monday, January 30th
Pizza selfie.

Tuesday, January 31st
No photo

Wednesday, February 1st
Yes, sheep do still stare at Dr. M.

Thursday, February 2nd
No photo.

Friday, February 3rd
Dr. M spent the day going down a genealogical rabbit hole, researching my Wallace family roots. He found a cemetery in eastern NC where my people are from (photos are from the internet). My great-grandfather is the one who moved his family to western NC when my grandfather was 7. He operated a dairy farm – probably serving the mill villages in the area. He also found a gravestone for two of my ancestors who fought in the Civil War. I especially note the middle name for one of them (Robert Chasten Wallace). Does this mean that I’m kin to Chasten Buttigieg?

Meanwhile, I stopped by my dad’s house after work and ate some of the most ginormous grapes I’ve ever seen. Man! And they were really good too.

Saturday, February 4th
Finished another cabled hat. I wasn’t paying attention at the very beginning & this one is really too small for my head. I think I’m going to end up giving it away to some child. I’m slightly annoyed, because I wanted a hat in this color. On the other hand, we really only need headgear a handful of days around here, so how many hats do I actually need?

It’s Black History Month, and whereas last year I had a fairly ambitious project (for me), this year I’ve said nothing at all. That’s probably the root of why I haven’t posted on the socials. I don’t feel clever, or inspirational. I just mostly feel tired. I’m going to put some thought into it today and see if I can at least post something. We shall see.

2023 Project 365 – Week Four

This week was another blur, but things are looking up around here!
Sunday, January 22nd
Dad was definitely feeling better! Here he is singing some songs that his grandfather used to sing to the kids.

Meanwhile, Dr. M was having lunch in his office.

Monday, January 23rd
I have no idea. I was feeling really (really really) drowsy, so maybe I was taking a picture to see what that looked like?

Tuesday, January 24th
I’m not a coffee drinker, but I thought maybe I should try because I’m so lethargic in the winter. Well, that’s just disgusting & now I plan to lean into the lethargy. I can work with just one eye open can’t I?

Wednesday, January 25th
I give blood for the snacks.

Thursday, January 26th
Harbingers of spring…

Friday, January 27th
Sheep, lambs, and their guardian who was looking at Dr. M with a good bit of suspicion.

He’s home! And he walked Sue & me through making waffles (which is usually his job & full disclosure, the man recently released from the hospital had to come over and help us. Twice.).

Saturday, January 28th
I got labels for my crochet items. The font is a little hard to read (it says DANABUG YARN HUG), but I still feel all professional-like.

I forgot to do a photo shoot of the second stocking cap, so this will have to do – I took photos of both hats with the labels on.

After two weeks of mostly sitting at work or in the hospital, I’ve had two days of being on my feet doing things. Oof. Definitely ready to be more back to normal & build my stamina back up! What are you looking forward to this week?

2026 Project 365 – Week Thirty-seven

We had another social gathering at church today (celebrating one of our founding members, who turned 94 this week & who is a total fire...
