Friday Flotsam

flot·sam (fltsm) NOUN:
1. a. Wreckage or cargo that remains afloat after a ship has sunk; b. Floating refuse or debris.
2. Discarded odds and ends.
3. Vagrant, usually destitute people.
  • It's Friday! (I'm not sure that requires any more explanation).
  • Although it was 16 degrees at my house this morning, the sun has been out for 2 days now! The snow is melting, and spring, literally, is in the air. Ahhh!
  • My work friend T had her baby yesterday! A is a beautiful little girl weighing almost 7 pounds. Mom and baby are doing well.
  • I had a fine time on my birthday, shopping of all things. My mother would have been so proud. It's not something I usually enjoy, but I guess once every six months or so is ok.
  • I did suffer, just a bit, yesterday with a birthday cake hangover. Thank goodness Dr. M had the presence of mind to get a small cake!
  • Dr. M & I are travelling again. Tomorrow we head to NC for a few days, & then on to Charleston, SC. He is reading a paper at a conference there. We've never been to Charleston so we're quite excited!
  • Because we're travelling I'm not sure how often (or if!) I'll be able to post. And I'm pretty sure I won't be able to read all of your blogs. So just in case, here's hoping everyone has a great week next week & I'll see you on the 15th!

  1. Have a great time. We'll be here waiting.

  2. Have a marvelous time out adventuring in the world, Bug! You'll have plenty of opportunity to stroll off any pieces of cake, and besides, it's important to eat cake sometimes. Even when trying to lose weight, it's okay that food sometimes still be fun.

Plus, you had to properly celebrate the Republic of You!

Shopping? Argh. I'm with you, I treat it like a military strike. Plot out where your target is, move in with surgical precision, extract the needed object, and don't let the local citizenry stand in your way as you withdraw.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I look forward to seeing your screenname when you are back, from the world at large :-) Be safe and have fun!

  3. Shopping? Oh, goodness, I love shopping. I just wish I had $$$$$. *heh*

I missed your birthday, argh, but I have posted a comment there today.

I hope you and Dr. M. have a wonderful trip, and be sure to tell us all about it when you get back.

  4. Looks like you are going to get out of the 16-degree cold in sunny NC. Have a wonderful time.

I absolutely love those bakery birthday cakes with goops of icing and I always eat WAY too much!

  5. Oh, you'll love Charleston! Have a great time!

  6. It's cold here too, but sunny. It's just as you said, cold but still you can feel spring in the air and the sky is blue. Now that has to be a plus.

Have a great trip and return safely.

  7. Well I, for one, will miss you, your posts, and your visits. Travel safely and enjoy yourselves to the fullest. One exception. Go easy on any cake. Preacher's orders.

  8. Enjoy Charleston! It's one of our favorite destinations. You've picked a good time to visit, too...not too hot!

  9. Happy birthday and have a great trip. I assume your camera will go with you?

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!
