Heredity

Heredity

My father is writing a letter to the editor.
Erudite and logical as Spock, he rests his case.
Maybe this letter will be sent and published
or maybe it will remain in his head, an ode called
Thoughts While Mowing the Back Forty.
No issue is beneath his scrutiny, and I am
just as random and ruthless in my own head.
We do not suffer fools, my father and I.

I like this inherited trait much better than
the gift of hairy legs and a substantial backside.

This is a Magpie, and part of my ABCs of Gratitude series.

  2. "Fools rush in
    where angels fear to tread
and so I come to you, my love,
    my heart above my head..."
Thankfully you suffer this fool :-)
    Excellent Magpie!

  6. Your dad sounds like the kind of guy we need more of. Fools reign when principled men sit silent.

  7. If the comments on the websites of my local papers are any indication, the Thoughtful Letter Writer is a dying breed. So, hang in there and do what you can to pass it along to your children. My Magpie this week is Poet.

  9. Your father sounds like an interesting guy. Most people just grouse over and over so it's great he actually writes his thoughts down. A wonderful gift he passed down to you.
