Various & Sundry Thoughts on Halloween

Although Dr. M and I didn’t dress up this year, and it was cold and windy (I actually heard the wind WHISTLE at one point!), he still sat outside and passed out candy to the kidlets (and the not so kidly). It’s one of his favorite things to do so I’m glad he participated.

I got my tooth pulled today. It was quite reluctant, but eventually Dr. Ames was victorious. It came out in pieces, which just confirms the need for this entire procedure.

I actually did take a picture of the hole in my mouth, but then I deleted it. You’re welcome. Instead you get a picture of the bowl of ice cream I fixed myself after I ate my bowl of soup. This is spumoni which, after Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food, is one of my favorites.

Dr. M bought me a present on his way home from school today. Behold, Mavis Jr.! (You can see Mavis Sr. here.) Look – she does tricks!

Isn't it cute? It projects on the wall, has three colors, and has a 20 minute sleep setting.

I’m going on a vestry retreat tomorrow evening (just an overnighter – but without my computer!!), and Mavis Jr. is going along to keep me company.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  2. Sorry about the tooth, Dana, but at least it's an excuse for spumoni! Enjoy your retreat while you heal.

  4. Glad your tooth procedure is over with! Speedy healing. The ice cream looks good...now I want some.

  5. As far as the tooth is concerned, better out than in; as far as the retreat is concerned, better in than out. Have an enjoyable weekend.

  6. Ouch, sorry about the tooth! But I'm glad you didn't share the wound with us. :)

I LOVE Phish Food ice cream. We get it here in London too -- one of the few Ben & Jerry's flavors that I've seen available in our local markets!

  7. Ken had a tooth extracted a couple of months ago and it came out in pieces, too. And then kept coming out for several days afterward! It wasn't a fun time for him. I hope your recovery is less eventful.

Hail, Mavis, Jr! Enjoy your first road trip with the Bug! I wish I could be there to facilitate (see today's blog).

  12. I am certain deep down dentists are evil beings. There is a sinister gleam in the eye of the dental hygienist who cleans my teeth when she sees me. On the other hand the dentist who removed my last two wisdom teeth shoot me up with awesome stuff that made my feet feel warm and fuzzy before I passed out.

  13. Bless your heart. Dental problems are awful. If spumoni and a cosmic penguin make you happy, then I say indulge!

  14. Thanks everyone. So far so good on the tooth front. Although now my tongue is paying special attention to the two teeth on either side of the new gap. Very annoying. Ha!

LOL at Ellen - I had that same thought. It's pretty funny - and cosmic :)

  15. I am sorry to hear about your mouth. I LOVE Spumoni and we cannot find it here. Sigh!

  16. Your spumoni reminds me of an episode of The Honeymooners. (Yes, I'm that old.) Ralph's mother-in-law wants him to buy ice cream. What kind? "Chocolate, vanilla, and pistachio" which is what your bowlful looks like. Ralph goes on a rant about how he can buy Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry but they don't make Chocolate, vanilla and pistachio!

I guess you had to be there.
