Happy New Year!

I’ve been busy taking care of niggling things – getting concealer to cover up my recent outbreak of rosacea (I look like a scary clown – seriously!), figuring out what that painful knot is on the bottom of my foot (a seed corn – yay! Yes, this is self-diagnosed, but I’m about 98% sure…), making plans to get back on track with healthy eating so I can weigh substantially less at my next doctor’s appointment (April), and figuring out how to refine a work process so that it’s easier for me to work from home. One might think that perhaps I’m getting ready for a new year or something. But no! These aren’t my New Year’s resolutions.

Sadly, since I pretty much ignored them, I’ve decided to just recycle last year’s resolutions:

1.       Have better posture.
2.       Look at my calendar every morning.

But this year I have a plan for actually accomplishing those goals. First, I’m going to do some research into the best exercises and methods for obtaining excellent posture. Second, I’m going to put a blasted alarm on my phone to remind me to look at my calendar. I’m going to set the reminder to “nag every minute” so that it keeps popping up until I look at the calendar. That should do the trick. Right? Right?

Dr. M and I have a low key evening planned and an even lower key day tomorrow. I have a new Eve Dallas book to read so I’ll be lounging around (I mean, sitting up straight in my chair) all day.

What are you guys up to?

  1. Well, those seem like somewhat achievable resolutions! At least you have some. I pretty much ignored the resolving.

  2. We fell asleep just before 10 last night, which is pretty amazing since I haven't made it past 9 o'clock all week. I hope you can attain your resolutions. I haven't made any. I usually do, but for the past couple of years I've punked out. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, Dana.

  3. No late night celebrations for us. And this year I'm actually cooking the typical southern New Year's dinner with pork, black-eyed peas, greens and cornbread. I need all the good luck I can get.

  4. We had a pretty simple dinner last night. Some bacon-wrapped scallops from Trader Joe's, rice and a salad. We watched Michael Feinstein in the Rainbow Room, a little of Kathy and Anderson being silly on CNN and went to bed right after the ball came down in New York. 10 o'clock here. The Old Folks at Home.

  5. I clicked on your link on methods to improve posture and was amazed at the images of stuff you can buy that supposedly improve your posture. Yikes! Some of those resemble torture devices...stay away from those. I remember reading (a long time ago) that if you walk around with a wet washcloth on the top of your head, just the effort of not letting it fall off will lead to good, straight posture. Might be worth trying...and if it doesn't work, at least the top of your head will be clean!

I'm still mulling over my resolutions, but your "look at my calendar every morning" resolution gave me an idea.

    Happy New Year!

  6. I never stick to resolutions, but I did like the one you posted on facebook -- Wherein you offer to support your friends' diets by eating all their food :)
Seriously though, we are trying to eat healthier too, and that will be easier now that it's summer here and more produce is available in the stores. Today for lunch we roasted a bunch of vegetables (beets, butternut squash, carrots, onions and red pepper) and then made a salad with greens, pecans, blue cheese and mandarin orange (seasoned with olive oil and a balsamic reduction). Delish!
I was also in my p.j.s by 6 p.m. -- not something I could normally do, but felt it was safe today. Pretty sure most people are just now getting up after being up most of the night. hahaha Argentines normally stay up late in the summer anyway, but on New Years Eve they just don't bother going to bed at all until mid morning or after lunch on New Year's day.
For the first time in many years I did not stay up until midnight. I was fast asleep by the time the clock struck twelve and the fireworks started. Cannot believe I slept through the fireworks, but I did. The hail at 4:30 a.m. did wake me up though, so it's already been a long day and I think I'm ready for another early night.
After spending the morning cleaning and organizing in the garage, we watched a movie this afternoon (something we haven't done in months). Loved "The One Hundred Foot Journey"! Have you seen it?

  7. We spent our New Year's Eve at Six Flags only to see mediocre fireworks. Ah well, it was by invitation from another family and the kids all had a blast riding rides and counting down the time until the New Year. Another memory made, I hope.

Good luck on the exercises, and Happy New Year!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
