This week I decided to combine my two poetry prompts – Magpie Tales & the Poetry Bus. You can see the Magpie prompt below. The Watercats (click on the link to see the other poets) is driving the poetry bus this week & asked us to write about sex, drugs, rock, and/or roll. I decided to write about rock and roll - & maybe there're some drugs in there too. Who knows? Certainly not this author LOL! I just write 'em – I don't have to understand 'em.
Fish Out Of Water
There's a concert going on
up the street.
Music rushes
over
by
through her
in waves.
A relentless ocean
a relentless pounding
a relentless…ness.
Its own entity.
a being of music
shouting her down
drowning her out
drowning her
in this psychedelic
fishbowl.

I love the idea of a psychedelic fishbowl, that's an excellent image!.. and a great poem all round, cheers! :-D
ReplyDeleteYes mighty psychadelic fishbowl I have to say, like the drowned outedness towards the end.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is how it feels!

Hey, clever piece combining the two prompts. Cool!
ReplyDeleteOoh! A twofer! I like the repetition of relentless in this and a psychadelic fishbowl, neat!
ReplyDeleteNice one Bug! I like that you say you write 'em but don't have to understand 'em!
ReplyDeleteMusic can be a beautiful or an alienating thing. You capture that well. Yabba dabba!
A great contemporary piece-- I think it fits perfectly.

Being drowned out in a psychedelic fishbowl - love it!
ReplyDeleteYou brought off this two-fer in great style!
ReplyDeleteOmigosh, great image! Wonderful...!
ReplyDeleteDrowned by waves of music in a fish bowl. Love it.
ReplyDelete"drowning her in this psychedelic fishbowl" - great imagery. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI love how you combined the two (wish I'd thought of it). I really like the waves washing over her. You have definitely caught the feeling that music can bring.

psychodelic fishbowl...i like that...not the drowning part, but...smiles. nicely done magpie!
ReplyDeleteFascinating concept of a fish drowning in sound waves! An immersion of another world...
ReplyDeleteFun, and a wonderfully chosen picture to boot!
ReplyDeleteI do sometimes wonder what we look like to fish in bowls. Are we friendly, or menacing giants? Distorted or improved by the glass?
Wonder the fish-eye-view is like?
A psychedelic fishbowl - what a great concept! Well done, Bug.
ReplyDeletePsychedelic indeed! Who would have thought? Loved this ......
ReplyDeleteA rather clever poem and the words give the picture of just how it was, wonderful imagery.

A being of music..what a trip..really like the rush of this!!
ReplyDeletewow loved it...did you say psycho fish bowl!?!?!? oh just kidding
ReplyDeleteloved it
loved the invented words or ideas...
ReplyDeletecreative magpie indeed...
I can relate to what I think you're saying. "There's a concert going on up the street . . " says to me, it's not going on here where I am. I was not a partier, and sometimes I regretted it. But I'm thinking it's probably for the best when all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteBut I can party now! :)
Good one! Sorry to be so repetitive, but this is just brilliant;
ReplyDeletedrowning her
in this psychedelic
fishbowl.
Hooked on music, eh? Great image, Bug!
ReplyDeleteDear The Bug: Wonderful combinations: never heard of it put this way quite before: original. Why would one drown in a psychedelic fishbowl of sound? You had to be there. I was there and you were there, man Intense poetry! Love it!
ReplyDeleteMusic and fish -- a good combination. Check out Schubert's "Trout" Quintet.
ReplyDeleteThere may not have been any drugs, but I bet she took something. Wonderful imagery!
ReplyDeletePsychedelic fish bowl? YES! Very descriptive.
ReplyDeleteI like how in a few lines you have create a clear image and created strong emotions. I like the music rushes over through by her, in waves. Great line!
