Heart Tales

1st Grade Bug

Heart Tales

It’s been years in the making.
The small child said,
“I don’t do pain.”
And so she coated
each slight until
the pain was gone.

Both wild and cultured,
the pearl of my heart is
iridescent and lovely.
Your tender sleeve
is no match for this
glorious fortress.

Yet your heartbeat
drowns mine out
every time.

  1. Adorable! An an avant garde haircut long before it was vogue!

  2. I absolutely love everything about this post - the photo, the poem ... I have a photo with a similar smile. Mine was because my teeth were so crooked I didn't want to show them. Years of orthodontia later, I still find myself not smiling in photos. Need to work on my pearl!

  3. I think we had the same hairdresser. That picture is adorable and (as they say) you still look like yourself - cute as a speckled pup.

  9. Some interesting and unusual imagery in the poem there. I love your haircut. I remember giving myself a haircut a day before school photo day - my mum was furious at the time.

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
