2011 Project 365 – Week Forty-Nine

OK, before you do anything else, if you have a Facebook account you have to go read this post & then vote for this lovely lady.

Go on, I’ll wait for you. Back? Ok, well, this is a banner week – two States of the Bug and a Tax Time Pig!
Sunday, November 27th
We drove home from NC today. We got off the interstate at one point and were searching for sheep. Instead, we found goats! Their guard (Alpaca? Llama? How can you tell?) was giving us the stink eye.

But they all ran straight for the car – probably thinking we had some food or something. No wonder they needed guarding!

Then we saw sheep.

We were amazed that this bumper sticker has survived 7 years.

Monday, November 28th
Dr. M wondered around a cemetery on his way home from school. I don’t know why, but I really like cemetery pictures.

The first State of the Bug. I got some excellent news, which you can read about here.

Tuesday, November 29th
You might remember that this window had a pumpkin in it last month. Now we’ve shifted into Christmas mode.

That night we had our first glimpse of snow. Whoopee? I do like to watch it fall…

Wednesday, November 30th
The Tax Time Pig is showing support for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dr. M took a number of fabulous pictures on his way home from school.

Thursday, December 1st
First of all, Happy Birthday to my brother! If you’d like to read last year’s tribute, check here.

This was the temp as I left the house Thursday morning.

I had promised myself that I could wear my new toboggan once the temp was below 30. So here’s the 2nd State of the Bug – tobogganed!

Later that day Dr. M ran into a murder of crows – yikes! To me it looks like a Hitchcock movie waiting to happen!

Friday, December 2nd
It was a bird kind of day on Friday. First, Dr. M took a picture of a nuthatch.

Then he saw a juvenile peregrine falcon!

And then he saw a red tailed hawk.

Saturday, December 3rd
This was my breakfast this morning. Grits, egg, homegrown tomato & livermush! Yum! I usually stock up on livermush on trips to NC. [Note: click on the link at your own peril – you don’t really want to know what’s in livermush.]

Here’s our tree. Ha! We’ve decided to go minimalist with our inside decorations this year - & this little tree suits the needs of our hearts. It’s on top of a gorgeous chess board that Dr. M’s dad made. He gave it to Dr. M for his birthday.

Go to Sara’s blog here to see the blogs of all the other Project 365 participants. Have a great week!

Most of our photos are taken with a 12 megapixel Nikon D5000 DSLR, using a 55-200mm zoom lens. This is the camera that Dr. M takes with him most days. We also take pictures with our old reliable 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710. This is the camera that the Bug uses most of the time. If you’re interested in which camera was used for a particular shot, just ask!

  1. I love your pictures, although I'd be a bit frightened if I saw you in that penguin cap coming at me in an alley. Have a great day.

  3. I have to confess that i don't have a facebook account. So sorry, but I just can't...

I'm also sorry to say that I clicked on the link for livermush. Couldn't help myself. I suppose it tastes better than it sounds.

Tax Time Pig should go on Project Accessory, don't you think?

As usual, I loved your Project 365 offerings.

  4. ah, livermush, THAT's what that is. Is that anything like scrapple? I actually like scrapple. The pig looks fab, and I'm wondering if those Christmas lights belong to a member of the red hat society. Eh? Glad you found some sheep on your journey home, but mostly I'm glad that you're home!

  5. You can keep all the other birds, the penguin's the winner!

And please explain grits. I've read it so many times, heard it sung in songs, but what kind of a foodstuff is it exactly? I can't even work out which bit it is on the plate.

  6. Ah, grits...well, it all starts with coarsely ground corn meal. That's really all there is to it. It's just another way to eat corn, which southerners have always had in such great abundance. So when people elsewhere were having oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc., we were eating grits. Indeed, our breakfast had a double dose of corn, in that you can't make liver mush without corn meal. Again, that's really all you need to know about southern cuisine...we can't live without corn and pork :-)

  7. Looks like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree I saw at Hobby Lobby. Nice chess board and are those dolcimers in the back?

  8. That bumper sticker outlasted John Edwards' political career!

  11. Not a fan of livermush, but to each his own :)
I haven't been able to keep up with blogs, being out here in the boonies, but I'm glad your news was good from the follow-up mammo!
Where'd Tax Time Pig find such a BIG helmet?! lol Go Bengals! (I'm not really a sports fan, but I like cheering for all of them)
Love your hat! I'd wear it even when it was above 30 degrees :)

  14. Love every single one of your pictures...but then I always do. They make me happy each week. Loved the pig. Too cute. The penguin cap was awesome...and Iloved your Charlie Brown tree. I feel that way this year. I just can't seem to get the desire to put one up.

  15. Brenda - those ARE dulcimers in behind the tree. I think I might post a recording of Mike playing one of them sometime this week.

  16. Um yes...that is about the smallest tree I've seen, but I love that it satisfies that part of Christmas for you.

I love how you two "stop and smell the roses" everywhere you go. THAT is the way to live.

Did you have red hair when you were younger, or is that just the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's just the picture - my hair was lighter when I was young, but definitely brown. I really really WANTED red hair though :)

  18. Sweet tree.
    Thanks for new word: shill.

  19. LOL Rita - he probably did BOTH. Ha! I'm not fixing it since that would make our conversation not make sense :)

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
