Twenty-One

Twenty one years ago today I headed down an artificially widened aisle toward a bemused young man. The organist was playing Once in Royal David’s City, I was wearing an enormous dress (the reason for the widened aisle) and I had a death grip on my Daddy’s arm. I wasn’t afraid of the day or my beloved or the promises we were about to make - I was afraid of the dress, and landing in some poor unsuspecting lap. I was aiming for the few steps I needed to navigate and felt huge relief when I made it without incident. The hard part of my wedding day was over!

I loved our wedding and I’m pretty sure I had a goofy grin on my face the whole day. I loved the reception and I really really wish I had let my dad sing Sunrise, Sunset. And I loved our honeymoon in Lake Lure and Maggie Valley, NC. But most of all I loved that all of these things happened with my own heart right there beside me.

Happy Anniversary Sweetie!

  6. Thanks everyone - we had a great day. And yes, it's pretty amazing to be married to someone that long :)

Rebecca - my cousin made the cake topper & yes, it's two golden rings. She's a potter (Hog Hill Pottery in NC). It's one of my favorite things from my wedding :)

  7. You gave us all a gift with this special post! Twenty one years is a place many don't get to visit ... I have always enjoyed designing clothes and must tell you that your gown is a vision ... my very favorite off the shoulder look. I would wear it today if I walked down that aisle - again.

  8. I had the big deal wedding the first time around but it was just a thing to get through. I knew even then it would not last, that it was a temporary thing. My real wedding though was at home, no music, lasted about 5 minutes in front of friends and family and then a big party that lasted from 4 PM til about midnight when the last person left. And I was deliriously happy.

Congratulations. You got the right one first time. Happy anniversary.

  9. What a beautiful story and wedding. I loved how 21 years later you still remember just hoping to make it down the aisle with your dress. It is beautiful! Do you still have it? I am always curious if ladies save their dresses.
    Happy Anniversary!

  10. Congratulations on your twenty-one years together. I offer my congratulations knowing that successful marriages like yours begin with two wonderful people but require much work and willingness to compromise, put the other person first. I can see in your pictures, then as well as now, that you both work hard at your marriage and refuse to take each other for granted. Here's to the next twenty-one years!

  21. Had to giggle at your concerns about the dress (which was gorgeous by the way). I was most worried about tripping over my own feet (it's been known to happen) and experienced that same sense of relief at making it down the aisle with my dignity intact :)
    Happy belated anniversary!

2024 Project 365 – Week Twelve

I woke up not feeling well and skipped church (for the second week in a row - oops), but that doesn’t keep me from being deep in the throes ...
