A flag flutters
in the breeze -
its tattered edges
no better kept
than my
ragged soul.
I could preach
about respect,
but that’s the
conundrum, isn’t it?
What do I know
about reverence?
And so I look away
instead of inside.
Let’s just keep
stirring the pieces
in the box so that
we never have to see
the unbroken picture.

This is a Magpie and a One Shot Wednesday. Please go to those sites to read other excellent writers!

  1. smiles...i like your close...so you never have to see the unbroken picture...seems the conundrum itself as it would seem better than the broken...

  2. It's always hard to look within, however, I think the bigger picture is one seen better when whole.

  3. ... or find that there's a piece missing - how dreadful would that be! Love this response to the Magpie prompt, and a great One Shot too.

  4. i could preach about respect...was the line which striked me most...great close as well..

  5. 'And so I look away instead of inside', how many times have we each done that? I love this poem, it's gentle, honest strength.

  6. You are a great poet, my love. You always have been, but lately...wow.

  7. I enjoyed reading this one.. its good one shot. Specially the ending..

  9. Avoidance ... better to take a peek, no matter how difficult.

  11. This really captures those uncomfortable moments we have in life. We are still left with the nagging feeling even when we look away. Enjoyed this :)

  12. Seeing the bigger picture sometimes helps with the missing pieces - in life, as in jigsaws!

  13. Just beautiful!

    Hugs & love,

  14. Wonderful - I love stirring the pieces in the box (a form of avoidance) and tattered edges of a ragged soul. So very nicely done!

  15. Your poetry is even stronger with every poem you write, Dana.

  16. You and I went down a similar path with this magpie. I really enjoyed your path. I am curious if you will like mine?

  17. Wow! This one really speaks. It isn't easy to look inward sometimes. Sometimes we'll do just about anything to avoid it.

  18. holy moly I loved this!
    you brought it on home!

  19. You know, I recently saw a very tattered American flag, and thought of respect. Nice piece, Bug.

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Book Reviews – the August Edition

I’m not sure what happened in August, but I only finished three books (and one of those was a devotional for Enneagram 9s that I was suppose...
