Welcome

Banquet Scene with a Lute Player by Nicolas Tournier, 1625

Welcome

Beggar blind man rich man fool
Teacher’s pet & satan’s tool
The watchful waiting wary too
All are welcome at the table

The first the last the meek & mild
Weakened hearts and Thursday’s child
Wicked warped and undefiled
All are welcome at the table

Ancient crones and newborn souls
Ishmael Isaac Vishnu Joe
The undecided and in the know
All are welcome at the table

Come in come in it’s almost time
I’ll wash your feet and you wash mine
Eat the bread and drink the wine
Just join me at the table!

This is a Magpie Tale and a One Shot Wednesday. Please check those links to read poetry & other excellent interpretations of the prompt.

  6. Excellent poem. A whole different take, but it went quite well enough with the picture, and I really enjoyed reading it! Nicely done.

  7. Dana, do these just bubble up inside you? They seem to just flow, so effortless because your muse is so strong!

Once again, you captured one of the great TRUTHs - all are welcome.

  9. I do like the undertones - we performed a piece "All are welcome at the table" set on the Sea of Galilee.
    Good reminder that all are...

  20. This is a great tribute to much more than the painting prompt, but a much more meaningful inspiration that seems to lie within your heart and soul. I wonder if the table you refer to is the daily meal table for togetherness and peace, or the communion table for forgiveness and grace. Either way it is a wonderful poem. Great job!
